The greatest danger of escalation would result from a direct U.S. attack on Russian installations and personnel. The Russians would likely respond in kind, making for a very dangerous and unstable situation.
Therefore it is likely that:
1) No Russian facilities will be targeted; and
2) The U.S. has already notified Russia of the intended targets and times of attack so that they can get their personnel and assets out of harm’s way. Of course, the Russians likely have passed that information on to Assad’s military and they will move their assets out of harm’s way, too.
It looks like a military strike on Syria, if it occurs, will be high-priced incendiary theater with no real military effect.
Surely, if Obama is so convinced (many are not) that Assad was responsible for the crimes against his own people and that he should take action – why is that action not going to be a bringing of Assad before the War Crimes Tribunal and charging the man himself – not his obedient military servants, for the crime he supposedly committed.. instead – the choice is to do EXACTLY what the claim is Assad did – inflict injury and death on people who were only following the orders of the regime. Also, if it escalates beyond the so-called “limited”intervention and USA troops are killed – is that blood on Obama’s hands??? Is Obama – and his cronies – not perhaps a little concerned that the longer they search for evidence, or the idea of charging and punishing the man himself – Assad – who they “claim” to have committed the atrocities, may in fact show that he did not commit them???? and may reveal the true perpetrators?? It will, however at least save innocent people from being killed – while the loud-mouths calling for “revenge” are safe in their offices and young people are injured, maimed, killed…which the Obama regime “detests” – the killing of innocents – but is prepared and keen to do just that!
