Booms, lights, mutilated sheep. Two separate incidents, or are they connected?

Residents of Victoria Texas reported seeing flashes of light and hearing loud booms Saturday evening. Calls were made to the police department, according to VictoriaAdvocate.com.

The Advocate article was last updated close to midnight, with police Sgt. Jef Strauss said stating that they didn’t know the cause of the noise: “We just don’t know at this point. But, we have no indication that it’s a danger to the public.”

The police department received the first call about 8:45 p.m., and Sgt. Jef Strauss said about eight other people called in to report the noise.

Linda Moulton Howe reported at her website, EarthFiles.com, getting an email from a resident describing the noise accompanied by a flash of light:

“Saturday Night September 21st, at around 7:15 PM Central, we heard a large boom. Didn’t know what it was and I checked Facebook. Several people here reported hearing it and another boom was reported at 8:30 PM. Local authorities have received several calls in regards to these booms, but do not know what caused them. People also observed a bright flash of light.”

Meteorite? That’s what the folks at the Advocate thought, too. But they reported that “a spokesman with the National Weather Service ruled out the possibility of the booms being caused by a meteorite or astronomical debris.”

Which brings us to another story in the news this weekend: missing and mutilated sheep. A farm in Port Lavaca, Texas — southeast of Victoria — has reported the disappearance or mutilation of sheep over the weekend.

After 15 sheep have either vanished or been mutilated, Wayne and Karen Daggs’ 10-acre property now has only 6 remaining. They’ve have lost $900 worth of sheep. Police are unable to find evidence leading to suspects.
