So called news anchors, including Piers Morgan on CNN and Alex Wagner on MSNBC, have been exploiting the latest gun related crime as a way of renewing their open attacks on the Second Amendment.
Completely ignoring the fact that the shooting took place in a gun free zone in Washington DC, where strict gun laws already exist, in an effort to push a pro-gun control agenda both Morgan and Wagner heavily promoted the rumor that Alexis had used an AR-15 rifle, the same gun that was used by the shooters at Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Connecticut, and the Aurora Theater in Colorado.
Hours after the rumours were dispelled and CNN had reported that no AR-15 had been recovered at the scene, Wagner continued to use a graphic of the Navy Yard shooter wielding the large AR-15 in reports.
On his rapidly declining CNN show, Morgan stated that the Navy Yard “was still infiltrated by a man with a legally purchased AR-15, who just committed the same kind of atrocity as we saw at Sandy Hook, and Aurora.”
After initially publishing several tweets decrying that an AR-15 had been used in the incident, in addition to repeating the suggestion on his show, Morgan then deleted the following two tweets and started to only use the word “gun” when describing the event.
The Wash Navy Yard shooter had 3 guns including AR-15 assault rifle – same killing machine used at Aurora and Sandy Hook.

Several Twitter users called out Morgan on his clamor to report without properly fact checking, all in order to further push his rabid call for gun control, and promote his upcoming anti-gun book titled “Shooting Straight”:
Morgan responded by ignoring the calls for journalistic integrity and further exploiting the deaths at the scene to call for gun control:
Morgan then finally tacitly admitted that the shooter did not have an AR-15 in this tweet:
Mainstream coverage of the shooting was so laughably pathetic that it became the crux of Jon Stewart’s news reel on last night’s Daily Show. Stewart highlighted just how shockingly inaccurate and poor network news reporting was, dubbing it a “wrongnado” of information.
“It’s times like these we require the context and clarity that only these noble dormant cable giants… can provide,” he said. “I’m sorry, did I say ‘context and clarity’? I meant, speculation.”
Stewart concluded that the chaos “vomited on to the screen” was an intentional ploy to win badly needed ratings.
