Carey’s family questions US police story
Miriam Carey was killed by authorities in Washington, D.C., on Oct.3.
The family of an unarmed African-American woman who was killed by authorities outside Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., has disputed officials™ accounts that she was delusional, saying there might have been another story than what they have been told.
œI feel that things could have been handled a lot differently,” said one of the sisters of Miriam Carey who was shot to death by police in Washington on Oct. 3.
œWe still feel that there was maybe another story than what we’re being told,” Valarie Carey added in an interview with NBC.
According to The Washington Post, federal agents in Washington fired seven shots at 34-year-old Miriam as she engaged police in a car chase from the White House to Capitol Hill.
Officers and agents from the US Capitol Police and the US Secret Service fired a total of at least 17 shots while Carey™s one-year-old daughter was also in her car.
Officials have said Miriam was under the delusion that President Barack Obama was communicating with her.
œShe was not walking around delusional, which is what we really want the public to understand,” said Valarie, who is a former sergeant with the New York Police Department.
œWhat I do see is that perhaps maybe my sister was a little afraid being surrounded by officers with their guns drawn. My sister was fleeing. She was trying to figure out how to get out of there.”
Police in Washington have said the case is being reviewed to see if the use of deadly force was justifiable.
