A 34 year old mother rams a gate at the White house, then careens through Washington before being taken out by the police.

The deeper question here is ‘Why?’

Miriam Carey was 34 years old, had a decent job as a dental hygienist, lived in a nice section of town…why would she suddenly go postal…homicidal…fruitcake?

One of the latest theories is that she had post partum depression. In other words, having a baby drove her to her violent escapade.

It is true that some women experience a bit of let down after giving birth. There is massive trauma to the body, after all, and one can experience mood shifts, even of the extreme variety.

And, in the extreme, it could be that Mariam Carey is one of those sad cases.

However, there is an additional chapter to the story that leads this writer to suspect a deeper problem. This extra bit of data is backed up by the fact that the daughter is now one year old, which means that the post partum depression has lasted a year. Could be, but that is a long time to hold a depression.

The facts are that Mariam gave birth, was depressed, and was admitted to a hospital a few months after giving birth.

Admitted to a hospital. And what happened in that hospital? The likely scenario is that she was given some sort of drug to deal with the depression, yet drugs seem to be present in many of the suicidal rages that occur in modern times.

Psychiatric drugs are administered, the person flies into a rage, and everybody says she was mentally ill.

No, she was depressed before taking the drug, and after the drug she was mentally ill.

After the drug she was chemically and mentally unbalanced, reality began to skew, and she fell victim to paranoia, schizophrenia, or whatever else the doctors want to label it.

So Miram Carey likely fell victim to modern medicine. She likely went homicidal because of pyschiatric anti-depressants. She, and thousands of others, have gone postal because of untried, study depressed, quack medicine.
