Is This the World’s Oldest Star Map?

In both an amazing and tragic twist of fate, we recently came upon the somewhat fabled star chart – a collection of thousands of engraved star markers found almost directly above the controversial ‘Kariong hieroglyphs.’ The authenticity of those ‘glyphs is hotly debated, but on this occasion those engravings were merely the backdrop and starting point to the story.

The Star Chart

The collection of Original engravings that exactly replicates the night sky over 4,600 years ago was not recognised by white fellas as being anything other than a series of engraved circles of varying diameter and depth. That was until a colleague of researcher Paul White decided to look further afield of the ‘glyphs on the three sandstone walls. Once the position of each engraving was accurately charted, the results were analysed by “software on Sydney University’s computer. The star charts reveal an unbelievable match with the star pattern above Gosford around the year 2,500 BC. The whole thing is [a] giant star map.” Even though Paul White now insists that the ‘glyphs are a “cleverly wrought hoax,” he did concede that the date of 2,500 BC was indeed “a strange twist of fate” as it “was close to” the date ascribed to the Egyptian hieroglyphs at Kariong.

For now we will leave aside the merits of White’s denial of ancient Egyptian legitimacy and instead focus upon the star chart, and its supposed cloak and dagger history. Of itself, to make claim that this star chart was of such unmatched antiquity in this country is major issue, as is the utter lack of any follow up by Australian academics and government officials.

Equally, for White, his colleague who transcribed the star chart, or anyone else to make such bold claims, all that is needed is a copy of that star chart with the date attached. With that piece of paper in hand or hard drive, the case is won. And therein lay the problem, it has often been spoken of and written about, but no-one has actually published or laid claim to having access to the Sydney University star map. Rumours abound. There is talk that Sydney University admit the astronomical analysis occurred – but all records of what took place, along with the results, seem to have disappeared.

Close to 15 years have passed since the recalibration of the night skies above Gosford, and we had assumed that yet another inconvenient historical truth was destined to remain hidden. Then, no more than three weeks ago through processes we prefer to keep private, that same astronomical map which has been missing in inaction for so long, was sent to us. All the details, latitude, longitude, dates, locations and time estimate is exactly as was claimed.

Around the same time the stones at Stonehenge were erected to chart the path of the sun and moon, star clusters were engraved on the rock platform nearest the ‘glyphs at Kariong. Notably, special with special attention has been given to engraving each marker with a diameter consistent to the magnitude of the the star it represents.
