The word for Japanese pride used to be called “saving face.” I’ve feared from the beginning that the world will lose Japan and it will be a great loss.

Japans dealt with serious radiation and destruction before people, when the Americans dropped 2 nuclear bombs on them and killed so so many, then the long term effects are still visible in people who survived the disasters. Sadly they are the only country that has had to deal with it, sad that it ever happened at all.
Now they have something bigger then we imagine to deal with and say what ever you want, if it happened in America there would have been just as much cover up, if not more so. We all know how much they lie to us, so do not assume everything you hear about this is the truth.
They weren’t nuclear bombs….they were hydrogen bombs….big difference. There wasn’t nuclear energy or weaponry back then.
Yes, both bombs were destructive, so to your point Japan did have to deal with the radioactive fallout and destruction caused by “Fat Man” and “Little Boy” which were dropped on Nagasaki and Hiroshima.
And further to your point…it took decades to clean and rebuild those cities. To Japan’s credit and perseverance they were able to rebuild those 2 cities and make them model modern cities.
But Fukushima is different in a few big ways. For one, a hydrogen or even a nuclear bomb is a controlled detonation of a relatively small amount of pure radioactive material. It packs a huge punch…but it disperses relatively quickly and the half-life of the radiation is not so long.
When you’re dealing with a nuclear reactor that has been massively damage and has gone fizzle like Fukushima or in the past with Chernobyl in Russia, you’re dealing with extremely “dirty” nuclear radioactive material with many different kinds of radioactive substances. This isn’t just a “small” explosive from a controlled weapon. It’s a constant eruption of highly “dirty” radioactive material that never stops.
It is constantly erupting into the air and water/Pacific ocean non-stop day after day, and it’s been nearly 3 years going…non-stop. At this point it is so bad and so deadly that the people working there to somehow contain it are basically on a death watch. They will all die of cancer very soon…many already have.
By the time they can extract and contain all the severely damaged spent fuel rods so much radiation will have been unleashed into the atmosphere and ocean and spread across the entire planet that the half-life of many of the radioactive isotopes will have already come to pass. But it will be too late. The damage will be so severe and widespread across the entire planet that by the time they contain Fukushima it won’t even matter anymore when it’s all said and done.
Most likely also within the next few years that same area is going to be hit by more massive earthquakes and typhoons which will cause more damage to the fragile infrastructure of those reactors and more intense radiation will be spread across the entire northern hemisphere, the Pacific ocean, and it will most assuredly spread throughout the entire Southern hemisphere as well. Cancer will spread world-wide at an epidemic rate unheard of since the days of the black plague.
This is bad news folks. There’s not much anyone can do. You notice that nobody in any country around the world have been offering their help and services to Japan? When there was an earthquake in Haiti there was an outpouring of military and monetary aid from the U.S. and some other countries.
The Philippines typhoon damage is also getting big time aid from other countries. Katrina, Sanday, etc….all get big attention and humanitarian aid.
Why not Fukushima???? Because of the horrible nuclear situation. Nobody wants to help clean it up and fix it and nobody in government or media wants to acknowledge it because it’s so catastrophically horrible. They don’t want to cause a panic.
It’s true that the West coast of the U.S. is in great danger. Japan may need to be scuttled and all people evacuated to other countries.
This is only beginning and it’s been nearly 3 years.
The Earth is in big trouble folks.
