A funny thing happened on the way to. . .

My optimism might be a bit dour as of late, but I am trying. This place is a bit odd, but I am learning the ropes. Having a friend out from Kansas this past month has be helpful, she kept me from feeling too out of place.

We seem to have lost Sproket. She disappeared a few weeks ago. But our two pups are loving it here. Watching them play so hard almost the whole day through helps lift spirits. I think part of the problem is our cabin gets very little sun, stashed away under a hill and trees. But with the leaves gone, we are seeing the outline of our land a bit more.

We even got our second snow fall.

The boys tried to go sledding, but it turned out to be more leafing. Still they enjoyed it. Simple things like that helps our moral. We knew winter would be hard, and we have accepted it, and are moving on.

Husband has even taken on helping with the household chores!

He is an awesome ceiling mopper.
With the roof being made of tin, and the fact the inside is not done, we discovered a condensation problem. Husband put up some plastic so that it would stop raining in the house. It worked for awhile, now the plastic has started condensating! Only dry place is in the living room and kitchen areas, where the wood stove dries it out. The boys have moved their beds into those rooms. Spring can not come soon enough.
As you can see, not enough sunlight makes it inside the cabin. However Thanksgiving was pleseant. My obsolete stove managed, somehow, to help me create a wonderful dinner. And a couple of pies!
Saturday I turned the ripe old age of 36. I have been officially homesteading 12 years now. My knee is much better, I walked the 1/2 mile up my driveway this morning, I did mention “up”?  It’s a bit sore, but I think it is functioning more properly at this point. The cold makes it stiff, but not achy.
Last night I managed to take a very luxurious bath. We heat the water from the creek on the wood stove and pour it into the bathtub that the previous owners managed to install before giving up. With it being winter here now, the boys aren’t as grubby, so my bath wasn’t like washing in their filth. I honestly don’t mind it too much. Everyone gets nice a clean, even me. But last night we started bathes early in the day, with all our chores done, it was a lazy day indeed.
When it was finally my turn, Large grabbed two extra pots of water for me. I think it had something to do with it being the day after my birthday, and it was his gift to me. The water was almost scalding a pig hot, but I loved it. I sank down and closed my eyes, enjoying the full glory of the hot water. I think I managed to even nap a bit, when suddenly, plop! Right in the middle of my chest, a cold drop of water fell from the ceiling! It happened a few more times, so I washed my hair. Then the drops stopped, and I could go back to relaxing.
It was a wonderful treat during this rough time.
Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving, or Thursday!
