Horror Story: Polar Vortex Splitting!
An extraordinarily powerful and persistent blocking pattern, blamed on manmade global warming, has linked the deep tropics to the high Arctic in and unprecedented and anomalous fashion over the past year.
An all time record high for anywhere in the state of Alaska for the month of January has occured: 62 Degrees Fahrenheit. This week, sourthern Alaska records 57 Degrees Fahrenheit. Could this be due to global warming?
Robert Scribbler thinks this might be the case. In his article, Arctic ‘Heat Wave’ to Rip Polar Vortex in Half, Shatter Alaska’s All-Time Record High for January? he says:
Across Alaska, temperatures are as much a 30 degrees above average for this time of year. This record winter warmth has pushed Alaska’s average temperature, according to reports from Anchorage, to 24 degrees Fahrenheit.
By comparison, the lower 48, hundreds of miles to the south, is experiencing average temperatures of 22 degrees Fahrenheit. Though 24 degrees is not typically seen as a heat wave, readings in the upper 50s and lower 60s for Alaska in January may as well be.
If these same temperature extremes were occurring during summer, some parts of Alaska would be experiencing a 90+ degree scorcher.
Blocking pattern sending tropics to the Arctic
A mangled jet stream, an anomalous 10-month blocking pattern, is to blame, according to Scribbler. In other words, a 10-month long warm air invasion hit the Arctic, with Alaska at ground zero, and it’s been caused by manmade global warming.
“Human-caused global warming has resulted in an amplification of polar temperatures well above the typical average. Now the region is experiencing readings that range of 15-30 degrees warmer than normal.
What might really get global warming deniers is Scribbler explaining the massive temperature increase is also associated with a reduction of land and sea ice and has weakened the polar Jet Stream, allowing more warm air to invade the Arctic from the south.
Early last spring, a weakness in the Jet resulted in a powerful and extraordinarily persistent blocking pattern forming over Alaska. Warm air flooded continuously up and over Alaska, occasionally penetrating deep into the Arctic Ocean region.
Heat wave after heat wave impacted Alaska, setting numerous all-time record high temperatures last summer.
“This anomalous heat flooded in and spilled out around the Arctic Circle, disgorging so much hot air that the term ‘Arctic Heat Wave’ became common parlance. Now, this historic and extraordinary pattern has continued for 1o months running. A kind of persistence that may well give new meaning to the term blocking pattern.”
The video below explains why some people adamantly deny what they do not understand and refuse to consider — to the point that one might become irritable when the topic arises.
As with many such topics, the truth is conveniently covered up by the corporate press, controlled by polluting forces, making it even more difficult to penetrate denial – to the point that even when evidence exists, it is rejected.

To your point, there have been over 20,000 real scientists who have confirmed that global warming is a lie with no credible or factual basis. I want to regurgitate when I hear the blathering of these global warming propagandist. Even when broken down Barney style, how would they explain the melting of the ice age if humans are the contributing factor? I suppose the Neanderthal built one too many fires… Clearly these boobs are totally ignorant of HAARP and cloud seeding. Furthermore, if there were even an ounce of truth that we (humans) are the culprit, their argument “carbon dioxide – footprints” being the cause it would still fall flat. What do these brain-iacs think trees and vegetation depend on to produce OXYGEN? This little necessity we all need to survive?! If these warmists wanted to do something, they could start by not destroying the natural environment to build their corporate castles surrounded by the pavement moats. Regardless, the cause is weather modification brought to you by the loved and trusted folks who work so hard to keep you “safe”. (Sarcasm intended!)
Sorry, 3I, you’re off on a few details. As usual, it takes longer to refute glib denials than to make them, so bear with me.
The 20,000 real scientists story is an old hoax that seems to have started with the “Oregon Petition,” a hoax which has been thoroughly discredited: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_Petition. It is related to another hoax, consisting of a fake scientific paper in the format of a scientific journal which that journal never published.
The melting of the ice age of course was not due to humans: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ice_age#Major_ice_ages. Nor was the melting of Snowball Earth, much earlier: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Snowball_Earth.
So you actually are regurgitating: denialist lies.
Arrhenius predicted greenhouse warming from fossil fuel combustion in the late nineteenth century, and he was right, as we know from CO2 measurements, the physics and chemistry of CO2 absorption of infrared light, ice cores, tree ring analysis, the fact that we have burned, in 200 years, about 3 million years worth of carbon fossil laid down eons earlier, and many other lines of evidence.
The science is fascinating, and a lot more explanatory than the pseudo-theories about volcanoes, changes in solar heat, HAARP, and chemtrails. The video above makes the crucial point: We know how much heat is trapped by the greenhouse gases, and we know that accounts well for observed global warming and climate changes. For alternative hypotheses to hold water, they have to account quantitatively for where all that heat went if it didn’t cause warming, and how a very similar amount from a different source happened to accumulate along the same time scale. All alternative hypotheses have failed to meet that challenge.
On reflection, I think you’ll agree the argument that trees need CO2 is fatuous. They had plenty before the industrial revolution, when CO2 was about 2/3 of what it is today, and the increased CO2 and temperature haven’t helped them. In fact, vegetation is CO2 and temperature sensitive: they limit their uptake of the gas above certain levels, and their enzymes, like ours, don’t work well outside the temperature ranges they evolved for.
As you say, we humans have reduced planetary photosynthesis a lot (some say as much as a third) since the industrial revolution. We have to get photosynthesis above, and bring CO2 below, pre-iindustrial levels in order to reverse the damage – fast. That’s why reforestation is a high priority in many parts of the world not dominated by Western economic imperialism.
You know, denialist lies are like STDs. If someone discovers an infection, it’s important to get back to people responsible so they can get treated and go back to the ones who infected them, and so on. With the exception of the carriers (people who cause the disease knowingly through deception), the disease can be greatly lessened, and the chances of future infections can be reduced.

I hope you’ll continue providing your readers with news on global warming, mass extinction, and overpopulation. They deserve the truth, and for sure the denial industry is working hard to protect the polluters by obscuring the truth.
Just as importantly, few of your readers have denied mass extinction and overpopulation, and their comments are very inaccurate. Two short remarks:
The current mass extinction event is proceeding at least as fast as the one which resulted in extinction of more than nine tenths of species: between 100 and 1000 time faster than the rate of evolution of new species. It is driven by human activities. The science is unequivocal, and links to readable scientific information can be provided.
A species is overpopulated if it is consuming resources it needs faster than they can be replenished. This continues until the species essentially burns out, often through full extinction. Humans are doing just that. Again, the scientific data are clear, and links to clear explanations are available.
I hope you will devote a little space to these two unprecedented challenges to life as we know it, as well as man-made global warming.

Polar Vortex is just a new buzz word for winter. Trouble is, most people have no historical perspective. We older people remember the same weather patterns occurring in the past, but without the breathless hysteria of the fear industry hammering away at our insecurities.
A little more perspective, from another older person. Cold winter weather occurred in the past all right, with lots of snow (I can tell the youngsters lots of yarns, and I’ll bet you can too), but it hasn’t as much recently because of global warming. Winters over the last two decades have been downright boring.
The Polar Vortex is a term meteorologists have used for some time, it’s not a new buzz word for winter. It’s the wind pattern around the North Pole. Stagnation of the vortex isn’t new either, but it’s becoming more pronounced, more common and more prolonged due to global warming, so there’s a more frequent return to cold and stormy conditions in the lower 48.
That’s one reason why we can still have severe winter conditions even though the planet is warming – contrary to deniers like Fox News and Rush Limbaugh. The other effects of global warming are in the news almost daily, and the science is clearly explained on scientific Web sites (go to the real climatologists doing the real research when in doubt about a particular claim, especially distortions from the well-funded deniers).
