The INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS TIMES is running a sensationalist story Shocked Italian Nun Gives Birth To Baby Boy.

This 31-year-old nun who belongs to the “Little Disciples of Jesus” convent in Campomoro near Rieti, Italy, gave birth to the boy after experiencing abdominal pains she thought were stomach cramps.

She’s named her child Francis, after the current Pope. Two thousand years ago (give or take 74 Roman Propaganda years) a woman named Mary also gave birth to a baby boy in similar Biblical circumstances. But the British Medical Journey urges caution:

The results of a study on reproductive health, published in the British Medical Journal, revealed that one in 200 US women claim to have given birth without ever having had sexual intercourse.

The BMJ article notes that virgin births, or parthenogenesis (from the Greek parthenos for virgin and genesis for birth), can occur in non-humans as a consequence of “asexual reproduction, where growth and development of the embryo occurs without fertilisation”. [source IBT]

This is the British Medical journal saying, “Yeah, spontaneous virgin births happen, deal with that.” So, a) what’s the point of men again and b) is it possible that ‘women don’t understand their own anatomy’?

Those of you out there gazing blankly at the screen shrieking, “The Second Coming of Christ!” should note that in the quoted article (above) the BMJ suggests that one in every two hundred American births may be such a ‘Messiah Birth’. And with the FOUR MILLION births per year in America alone, this gives us a total of 20,000 Angel-derived (if one believes the stories) births walking around today, Among Us.

Think on that, this morning, as you eat your Christ’s face-imprinted toast; miracles happen.
