Mass Grave, 1,000 Bodies, Found On College Campus (Video)
via Huff Post
It may sound like the beginning of a horror movie, but burial sites found on a college campus have created a potential nightmare for administrators. While surveying land for a new parking lot at the University of Mississippi Medical Center, officials made a grisly discovery: more than 1,000 bodies thought to have been patients at the old Mississippi State Lunatic Asylum. The unnamed, century-old graves present a problem for the university, whose expansion plans could be halted over the cost of relocating the bodies.
Yes, it would be a shame that the students there would not benefit from expanded facilities. That said, if they were really Christian, they wouldn’t mind because they would be able to give a proper burial to human beings that were discarded like garbage in a mass grave. I can only imagine the horrific stories that surly would come from their skeletal jaws.

Shut down the university, revoke it’s funding and bull doze the entire campus.
Statements like this show ignorance in how things were done 100 years ago. If a person thinks that they can’t find a mass grave such as this in all states they are limited in their understanding of of the value placed on these humans. The reason that these bodies were buried like this is because no one claimed them. Was it wrong to bury them without ceremony? Yes, if there was no ceremony. Is it wrong for all families to shirk the responsibility of taking care of their kin?
Oh yeah killing 1000′s of mentally ill people was the norm back in the day, everybody did it! I’m sure that giant hole in the skull on the bottom of the pic happened on it’s own huh?
Must be skull and bones class of 1892
Yeah right shutdown the university because they found a 100+ year old CEMETERY & not a mass grave as this idiot is stating!
I;m sure these skeletons will be happy to be placed in a nice clean box and then re-buried .I;m sure the mortician will be ecstatic .
Not bodies. Skeletons. Did they all die at the same time in the same place? Burials like this sometimes indicate a genocide. Maybe these skeletons were collected and reburied after a Mississippi flood floated their caskets to the surface out of a graveyard. It could be anything. This story is here mostly for its crock of shock value.
You make a good point sir. Thank you.
That photo doesn’t even come from the mass grave. Why put up a photo that is misleading? It seems to come from China. Why didn’t you label it? It’s not in the source material, so you had to add it yourself. Junk journalism.
Look at the pile of bones and imagine it’s the MILLIONS of babies slaughtered for profit; Infanticide by Judicial decree.
If you can believe Google (and I’m not even sure about that anymore) the picture is from Poveglia Island , Venice Italy
Venice? Then I would guess the photo is of a much older grave, maybe from the time of the Black Death? I wonder what the Mississippi grave actually looks like.
“The recent discovery was made before any bodies were physically dug up. Having learned their lesson from previous instances, researchers used ground-penetrating radar to test before breaking ground.”
They aren’t going to build on the site because of the cost of re-burial. They used ground penetrating radar, so there was no photo to accompany the story, so they picked one off of Google images. No skeletons on display on the grounds of the Medical Center.
To Jacksdad—asshopper, I mean grasshopper, When a statement is made from ignorance, and said often, does it make it true? The photo is above, regardless of the holes in the skull, does not come from the grave.
Remember people this is in the south where critical empathetic thinking is as rare as inter racial marriage. If anyone thinks there is no nefarious behavior associated with this discovery than you are either involved in it or your relatives were!
I am from the south. I’m sure that my IQ is greater than yours. I’m sure that my ability to think critically and logically is greater than yours. If you don’t know the meaning of bigotry look it up. Bigotry covers more than race relations. Look at yourself and ask if you fit the criteria. I was not there 100 years ago, therefore, I didn’t participate. My relatives never lived in that area nor worked for the mental institutions. How do I know this? Because most people in the south know their genealogy. I also know who my father was.
Now how would you know you were smarter than anyone else…that statement, your statement about your great intelligence, is, in itself, is ignorant. The same ignorance you are claiming the OP has. Hmmm
This article explains in much better detail:

Somebody committed a lot of murders it seems. Reminds me of Joe of the mob who told stories about Catholic priest and when they were at an orphan school.
I’d like to know if these bones were white or black race.
This will depend on the kind of second burial.
To John—You are correct that I don’t know exactly the IQ of most people, so I must rely on statistics. I should have said that based on his comments it would appear that his IQ was lower than mine. The unequivocal statement that I made was wrong and when someone does this they should be informed. Making a comment such as this, about race, gender or any group of people is wrong. My intent was to call attention to his bias and in doing so made that unequivocal statement.
these just more nonconsenting test subjects…. like You are right now.
Many times mass graves were used to contain contagion. If this mass grave were found on or near a medical facility that might be a possibility. One hundred years ago yellow fever epidemics ravaged whole communities. The Medical College might have records that can identify the cause of this obvious tragedy.
Seems to me that this was a mass event, such as maybe a disease (such as flu ?), that killed all these people at the same time, perhaps by all these people living in the same building. Or maybe Dimitri is right.
Disinformation. Not a “mass grave” as shown in this unrelated picture. They found unmarked graves over several acres with ground penetrating radar. This was the site of the state’s mental hospital where naturally patients died over the course of many years. The problem is that they didn’t use grave markers and no one today knew about them.
Here is the real story: http://www.clarionledger.com/article/20140209/NEWS01/302090037/Discovery-graves-affects-UMMC-parking-plan
For years, employees and students at the dental school, which is very close to the area with the graves, have said the building is haunted. Really. I guess we now know why.
Well, it shouldn’t be too difficult to research the area’s history to ascertain whether or not an epidemic swept the area, necessitating the unceremonious dumping of contagious bodies into a mass grave.
If these are the remains of mental patients, this much is certain: Inmates of asylums for the so-called “insane” were not valued as human beings and were often the subjects of brutal experimentation both in the south and the north. Eugenicists have long justified such treatment as “necessary for the greater good.”
Jasmine, NO MASS GRAVE WAS FOUND. Go to my link above for the truth. It was the state’s mental hospital from the 1850′s until the 1930′s with up to 2,000 patients at times. In those days, there were really no treatments for mental illnesses. Once committed to a mental hospital, that’s where they usually died – of old age and natural causes. Also graves from a church and possible Civil War battle dead could be buried there also.
The state’s current hospital for people with mental illnesses ALSO HAS A GRAVEYARD. Only those graves are marked.
