Russia Prepared To Fight War Over Ukraine, Senior Government Official Admits

“If Ukraine breaks apart, it will trigger a war,” warns a senior Russian government official. The FT reports Russia is prepared to fight a war over the Ukrainian territory of Crimea (where the largest ethnic Russian population lives and they have a military base). Conjuring images of the 2008 Russian invasion of Georgia, the official told the FT, ”they will lose Crimea first [because] we will go in and protect [it], just as we did in Georgia.” The Kremlin regards the Georgian conflict as the biggest stand-off between Russia and the west since the end of the Cold War and it has fed determination in Moscow to push back against what it believes to be western attempts to contain Russia.
Te peace deal they have signed solves nothing and has already been rejected by the far-right militants who have been doing most of the fighting with the government. This peace will not last. It is abreather for both sides to regroup and thats it. At this point I think it would be hard for their not to be some kind of military intervention to this conflict. I hope the people on the ground in Ukraine realize they are just pawns. Sadly, I think the only ones who do are the ultra-nationalist, fascist groups like the ones rejecting this peace deal.

This is the msot worrisome- out of all the ‘Chicken Little’ potential threats- to my mind. If the world does not intervene to contain this one via diplomacy, we will truly be in for a WWIII and the US will not win this one. The Ukraine has always been the “bread-basket” of Russia and it will stay that way if Putin has his way. As the situtation stands today, Putin is getting everything he wants because he and the world have lost all respect for the US and especially Obama and his Cabinet. Lines in the sand have become meaningless as have threats of “severe repercussions”!

It’s obvious Obama is in way over his head on this one, talk about conflicted. How can he support the rebels in the Ukraine, when he is pushing for socialism here? He should be calling Putin for advice on how to run a country like a dictator. As for the people of Ukraine I really feel for them, they are faced with a serious problem, they have a government telling them what they can have or face imprisonment/death if you disagree.
