US and France warn of possible new measures against Russia – with video ~ link ~ US President Barack Obama discussed the escalating Ukraine crisis in a telephone call with French President Francois Hollande on Saturday. 
 
The two leaders insisted on the “need for Russia to withdraw forces sent to Crimea since the end of February and to do everything to allow the deployment of international observers,” the French presidency said in a statement.

“If there’s a lack progress in this direction, new measures will be taken which would noticeably affect relations between the international community and Russia, which is in no-one’s interest,” it said.

President Barack Obama on Saturday spoke to world leaders including David Cameron of Great Britain and François Hollande of France about the continuing crisis in Ukraine.

Also on Saturday, secretary of state John Kerry warned his Russian counterpart that any steps to annex the Crimea region would “close any available space for diplomacy”.

Ukraine braces for new demonstrations in eastern  Ukraine as Russia threatens natural gas supply over unpaid bill ~ link ~ Donetsk, a focal point of the crisis engulfing Ukraine since the protests that toppled president Viktor Yanukovych, was expecting a large demonstration by activists demanding a secession referendum like the one planned for the Crimean peninsula.

The latest show of pro-Moscow sentiment in the largely Russian-speaking southeast comes after Russia threatened Friday to halt gas supplies to Ukraine following Western sanctions to punish the Kremlin for seizing de facto control of Crimea.

The warning by Russian state-run energy giant Gazprom, which could affect supplies to other countries, raised the spectre of previous gas disputes between Russia and Ukraine that deeply rattled European economies in 2005-2006 and again in 2009.

Secretary of State Kerry reiterates warnings over Russian actions in the Ukraine ~ link ~ US Secretary of State John Kerry has told his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov that any Russian steps to annex Crimea would close the door to international diplomacy.

Mr Kerry also urged Mr Lavrov to ensure that Russia acts with the “utmost restraint” in Ukraine.

Threats are made not only against officials in Kiev and Ukraine’s regions,but also heads of Russia’s regions bordering on Ukraine.

Popular uprising looming in eastern Ukraine ~ link ~ When the Warsaw Pack and Communism ended Czechoslovakia peacefully split into two nations; Yugoslavia had a series of bloody wars but at the end of the several year long process, Serbia and Montenegro spilt apart and ended Yugoslavia peacefully.  This could happen in Ukraine, but the West (and most importantly its puppet masters) appear not to want a peaceful outcome!!!   Stirling     


Protests against the self-proclaimed government in Kiev continue in eastern regions of Ukraine. Thousands-strong gatherings in Donetsk and Lugansk are rallying in support of the Russian language and holding a referendum on the federalization of Ukraine.

In Donetsk, the city that once used to be the stronghold of the ousted President Viktor Yanukovich, people are protesting against the new governor appointed by Kiev last Sunday. 

The appointee is Ukrainian oligarch, billionaire Sergey Taruta, the owner of ISD, one of the biggest mining and smelting companies in the world, he also owns the Donetsk-based Metallurg Football Club. 

The oligarch governor failed to come to Donetsk immediately after the appointment, so demonstrators have chosen a “people’s governor” of their own, the leader of the ‘National levy’ Pavel Gubarev advocating setting a referendum that might ask the citizens of Donetsk region about reunification with Russia. The ‘National levy’ also started collecting signatures to conduct referendum on allegiance of the region.

Lavrov told Washington to refrain from “hasty and reckless” decisions over Ukraine that would deteriorate US-Russia relations, RIA Novosti reported. His comments were made during a telephone call with US Secretary of State John Kerry. 

The foreign minister warned that any sanctions against Russia “would inevitably hit the United States like a boomerang.”
