Mysterious Booming Sounds In Missouri Ozarks Warning Of Coming Earthquake On New Madrid Fault? (Updated Video)
(N.Morgan) The authorities in the Ozarks have no clue what the huge booms residents heard. When the New Madrid had the huge earthquake of 1811-1812, it was reported that residents then heard strange, big booms, prior to the major quakes. This was such a major event, the Mississippi River ran backwards and it made some parts of land in the area into swamp lands.
There have been some earthquakes in the New Madrid Seismic Zone this week.
A Sequence of Three Main Shocks in 1811-1812
This sequence of three very large earthquakes is usually referred to as the New Madrid earthquakes, after the Missouri town that was the largest settlement on the Mississippi River between St. Louis, Missouri and Natchez, Mississippi. On the basis of the large area of damage (600,000 square kilometers), the widespread area of perceptibility (5,000,000 square kilometers), and the complex physiographic changes that occurred, the New Madrid earthquakes of 1811-1812 rank as some of the largest in the United States since its settlement by Europeans. They were by far the largest east of the Rocky Mountains in the U.S. and Canada.
The area of strong shaking associated with these shocks is two to three times as large as that of the 1964 Alaska earthquake and 10 times as large as that of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. Because there were no seismographs in North America at that time, and very few people in the New Madrid region, the estimated magnitudes of this series of earthquakes vary considerably and depend on modern researchers’ interpretations of journals, newspaper reports, and other accounts of the ground shaking and damage. The magnitudes of the three principal earthquakes of 1811-1812 described below are the preferred values taken from research involved with producing the 2008 USGS National Seismic Hazard Map .

New Madrid, pronounced MAD-RID not Ma-Drid in Missouri , is not in the Ozarks. In fact they could not be further apart. The Ozarks ire a small upland mountainous region in south central MO, while New Madrid is firmly planted in the Mississippi flood basin of the east. They are on separate techtonic plates for all practical purposes.
Called my mom ( lives in the Ozarks ) and asked her if any strange sounds or reports of such have been occurring.

I always like to do a little research before I post anything. I think you will find good use in this link to an article I have found. I have lived in Missouri my whole life. The Ozarks is a vast region in Missouri. I live near Springfield and the only strange booms heard around here are the rock quarries and tannerite. I cannot speak for those people living in the “boot heel” of Missouri. Also it is pretty much the whole southern part of Missouri called the Ozarks, not just the Branson area

Along the Mississippi all the way to Mountain Grove MO. We are in Willow Springs in Howell county bordering Arkansas…..Ozark enough for you?
Don’t feel bad, Joe Wiz, I live in West Texas, and I swear, if I see another ‘WIPP IS A NUCLEAR DISASTER’ story on BIN, by writers living in Section 8 housing in Harlem, here on BIN any more, I think they’ll probably hear me scream. It doesn’t matter than I can drive over to WIPP in about an hour and a half, or that I’ve seen what the National Enquirer quality of reporting is doing to poor locals around here (running the last $20 out of their budget, in gas, just to go over to Carlsbad and get their free radiation testing when these fools start writing lies), but it is absolutely irresponsible.
WIPP isn’t hot. It is half-a-mile below the ground, and the stuff down there CANNOT go critical (worst case, they bulldoze the entrances and call it DONE). The whole place is bad only if they let air move alpha radiation to the surface, and even then, they have above-ground monitors that go NUTS if they have an actual topside release.
Yeah, doesn’t matter. Those New Yorkers writing on BIN know more than the DOE and locals here. Doesn’t matter that we understand click-counts, geiger counters, get actual readings, nope. Rumor has it, Michael Bloomberg has certified them ALL to be experts in ‘keeping the masses calm’, just look at the experts he sent to Ferguson Missouri to help them there!
It was just last year that two really loud booms where heard by many, including myself. They made the news but the cause was never determined. This occurred about 30 miles east of Nashville, TN. My best guess is that it has something to do with plate tectonics. I believe an earthquake or series of quakes equal to or very close to the ones that formed Real Foot lake back in 1811-12 will occur again within the next few years. My fear is that this earthquake or series of quakes will trigger an event in the Yellowstone region as well. If this were to occur it would be like a one-two knock out punch to the US. The entire planet would ultimately be effected but the US would sustain the brunt of destruction. Not only would it receive the damage from the initial quakes but the ash cloud from Yellowstone on top of that would be devastation on a magnitude unheard of since humans began recording such events. This would be the event that would put mankind back hundreds and hundreds of years if mankind even survives at all. What doesn’t go under water from the New Madrid earthquake would be covered in ash. That ash would spread all across the globe causing the blocking of sunlight and a disruption in the food chain starting with the plants and working it’s way up. But let’s keep our fingers crossed that this worse case scenario does not happen, ever. We can deal with hard punch here and there on occasion but something like what I just described would be too much. I think a few would find a way to survive but it would be just a few. What I described would create a period of time, maybe 2 to 5 years, that if food wasn’t found in a can or a jar then there would not be anything to eat.
But look on the brightside. With water and all the ash there would be no shortage of material to make bricks so you can build yourself a nice little home in the Smokies with a, to die for (pun intended), ocean view.
When I lived in Leadwood, Missouri, I heard probably 4 loud booms over a 2 year period. I often wondered the same. I know it was a big mining town back in the day, so it’s quite possible that some ‘sleeping giant’ could be waking up.

the Osage-Gasconade Hills around the Lake of the Ozarks;
the Saint Francois Mountains;
the Missouri River and Mississippi River border areas along the eastern and northeastern flanks.
Madrid, which is now in the Mississippi River, was pronounced (mu-DRID). New Madrid WAS pronounced New mu-DRID until the early 1900′s.
DRAUGR, I believe you are right. There’s going to be a whole lotta shakin’ going on, and it’s going to be worse financially than any quake that has hit in the US before.
