Solar Will Protect U.S. From Nationwide Power Outage

Shocking new study from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) says that even the smallest home-grown terror attack could take down the entire U.S. power grid for at least 18 months, maybe even longer according to former FERC chairman John Wellinghoff: “Destroy nine interconnection substations and a transformer manufacturer and the entire United States grid would be down for at least 18 months, probably longer.” -Wall Street Journal

If just 9 out of 55,000 electric substations were attacked it could collapse the entire system, FERC began looking at this issue only recently in response to requests from Senator Dianne Feinstein after last years sub-station attack in San Jose.

The length of time it takes to bring back the power grid ultimately depends on availability of replacement transformers, if new transformers need to be ordered, the lead-time is likely to be a minimum of 6-8 months, maybe even longer. The fact that the U.S. government is spending over 53% of U.S. taxpayer dollars towards the military industrial complex and not enough attention towards vulnerable infrastructure  like the power grid should put fire under the ends of every American to protect themselves instead of relying on the government to do something.

Life without power would certainly would be disastrous; food would go spoiled, hospitals and banks would shut down, gas stations, sanitation, water and refrigeration would all stop working at the same time. It would certainly spark a nationwide panic.
