Warnings Of Rising Food Prices Follow ‘Bad Weather Events’

As I predicted in two articles last month: It’s Happening Now: Famine is Coming To A City Near You and It Has Begun: Wise Up and Stock up as Food shortages and Price Hikes Are Coming Before the Years End warning of food price hikes are starting to come via mainstream media.

Be it the drought in California, the floods in the UK or the snow in the Midwest of the United States weather is always used as the excuse for price rises. Of course the weather plays a part but so does some of the farming methods used.

Some farmers have abandoned the age old practice of crop rotation thinking that their GM crops, resistant to so many things means they can abandon traditional farming techniques. This is not the case. Pests that build up in the soil where for example brassicas were planted  for several seasons have the ability to decimate the crop, had a different crop been planted all would have been well.

In addition pests are adapting to insecticide producing GM plants. Corn root worm is working its way through fields with no ill effects from the products that Monsanto et al vowed would kill it.

The growing of crops for biofuels is reducing the amount of food producing land across the globe exacerbating any problems that the weather brings.

All of these things are going to have a major effect on the prices we pay for our food. Some foodstuffs, such as corn could be in short supply pushing prices up even further.

England is a nation of growers but with the exception of jams and pickles preserving is not something that’s common over here. Luckily my American friends have taught me a great deal about canning and dehydrating, and I would urge British readers to look at websites such as The Organic Prepper and Ready Nutrition. Both Daisy and Tess will happily answer questions if you get confused.

To those than can I say grow as much as you can and preserve as much as you can. Every morsel you save now is a morsel you don’t have to worry about in the future.

If you are in a position to do neither of those things then seriously consider stepping up your preps before the inevitable price rises that are coming.

Take Care
