AZ Republic attempts to conceal key information in freeway death
Haven’t you had enough of the newspaper’s bias?
In the Arizona Republic’s reporting of the tragic and unnecessary death of off-duty Mesa police officer Brandon Mendoza in a head-on collision, readers might have noticed the peculiar placement of a crucial fact.
Brandon Mendoza, 32, was killed by Raul Silva-Corona, who had driven more than 30 miles in the wrong direction on Valley freeways in the early morning hours Monday. Officer Mendoza had just finished a patrol shift and was driving home when he was killed.
Silva-Corona’s blood-alcohol level was .24 percent —- three times the legal limit —- when the collision occurred. In Arizona, a driver is presumed to be legally drunk with an .08 percent blood-alcohol level.
Bringing up the rear of the 400-plus word news report in the Periódico de la República de Arizona (Arizona Republic) is this key bit of information tucked away in the final sentence:
“Also Thursday, federal officials confirmed Silva-Corona was in the country illegally. The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement said he was a native of Chihuahua, Mexico.”
Have you had enough of selective “news” contained in the “fish wrap?” You might want to follow Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s excellent advice at the end of this brief video.
