Turkey's Whirling Dervishes - Why did modern dance lose its spin?

everything in this universe spins, or has spin, and I was wondering when the act of dancing lost its spin factor.

Look at kids when they do the happy dance, what do they do? Spin, on the spot or in groups. Spinning (and laughing) is a natural part of what Nature is. But apart from the recent break-dancing (back-spinning craze), these days, dancing is a one-plane stepping ritual, usually guarding a hand bag on the dance floor. You move from one side to the other, stepping with your left foot, then stepping with your right foot. Sometimes there’s a flip, a hand clap or a turn.

But there’s not the Whirling Dervish-like hypnotic spinning of, well, Turkey’s whirling dervishes.

The only real spinning dance that exists (legally) to this day is the Viennese Waltz (and there is a lot of history between the Turks and the Austrian (the Habsburgs and the Ottomans) respectively) but it’s all a bit mechanical and doesn’t linger on the as-above-so-below hand positionings and trance-like state achieved with ISS or Intentional Spiritual Spinning.
