Tsunami Warning, 8.0 Quake In Alaska!

A strong magnitude 8.0 quake occurred today around 12:53 pm Alaska time today near Amchitka, Alaska.

A Tsunami Warning is in effect from Attu to Nikolski and includes the Pribilof Islands in the Bering Sea. A Tsunami Advisory is in effect from Nikolski to Unlaska.

If you are in a warning area: move inland to higher ground.

If you are in an advisory area: move off the beach and out of harbors and marinas. Widespread inundation of land is not expected in Advisory areas.

Be alert for instructions from your local emergency officials.

Do not go to to the coast to observe the tsunami.

Do not return to the coast until local emergency officials indicate it is safe to do so.

For the latest information, head to nwtc.arh.noaa.gov. New updates will be provided every 30 minutes.
