On April 11, 2014, my grandmother sent my family and I to pick up my sister, Leeza, from school for a wedding. While waiting in the passenger side for Leeza, a school security officer approached my father in the driver’s seat asking, “Can I help you?” The reason for asking was because my father was parked in a reserved space. The situation escalated, and my father refused to answer who he was picking up. All questions were directed towards him and they asked him to leave.

My father asked me to switch seats because he did not have a driver’s license. All this happened while my sister, Alexis, was still in the back seat. When my family and I began to leave, a police officer was waiting at the entrance, asking us to pull back and park. He approached, and asked me questions. The Assistant Principal then approached, making false statements to the officer, repeating things my father said, but instead labeled it as “they.” The officer then began to believe those statements were also made by me and he then acted upon that belief. I was the only one arrested, not my father or sister. I asked the officer why I was the only one arrested; he replied that I was driving and “in control of the situation.” Regardless of whether or not my father was wrong, I feel that I should not have been arrested for it.

I was arrested for the following misdemeanor charges:
626.7(a)(1) Failure to leave school grounds
148(a)(1) Obstruct/Delay police officer
