Air Algeria Flight 5017 Crashes In Mali With 116 Passengers, 3rd Plane In 8 Days

Air Algeria announced Thursday it had lost contact with one of its aircraft 50 minutes after taking off from Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso.

The air navigation services have lost contact with an Air Algeria plane ensuring Thursday Ouagadougou (Burkina Faso) Algiers binding, 50 minutes after takeoff, according to sources from the company.

“Air Algeria informs that the air navigation services had their last contact with flight 5017 AH ensuring Ouagadougou Algiers bond date 24 July at 1 hour 55 minutes GMT, 50 minutes after takeoff,” said the source in a statement. “In accordance with company procedures, Air Algeria has started its emergency plan,” the source added.

There are a number of theories going right now. The plane is believed to have crashed in Gao,Mali from running out of fuel.  Which doesn’t make much sense at all.  Gao is a known terrorist haven sine 2012.  Didi al-qaeda shoot it down?  This id the 3rd plane to go down in 8 days which is unprecedented I believe.   Not a good time to be traveling in the sky right now.  I will update when more is known, stay tuned.
