IN HIS REPORT, Fernandez includes a recent quote from General Keith Alexander, who rightly points out successful terrorist attacks are on the rise overseas, and were likely test runs for what these same terrorists hope to do on American shores very soon. Perhaps the most chilling of the general’s projected scenarios is the following:
Imagine if the United States was under attack by a wave of warplanes that we had on our radar, and then those planes turned off their transponders and suddenly became invisible to us. That’s the analogy I would use to explain what is happening with terrorist plots.
Now imagine such planes being loaded up with weapons of mass destruction instead of merely jet fuel, and must consider the true nightmare scenario General Alexander is hoping more and more are willing to admit is not only possible, but increasingly likely.
