I don’t follow this stuff, but I believe the number one television show in America is called “The Last Ship.” I’ve been watching it. It has some intrigue and is fairly entertaining. It has a Navy ship, although only one – thus the name “The Last Ship,” guns, missiles and Ruskies. What else do you need?
It also has disease. Yes, the program is centered around a worldwide pandemic – a virus that has wiped out most of the world’s population.
This U.S. ship travels the seven seas, or will eventually I assume, searching for a cure, a vaccine for the virus, which is so deadly that if contracted, has a 100% mortality rate.
Now, is it life that imitates art or art that imitates life? I think it’s the latter and in our current, real life condition, it most certainly is. What a coincidence that this show is airing at the very same time the world is locked in a battle to contain the deadly African Ebola virus.
It is an odd coincidence, but a coincidence nonetheless. Thankfully, there is no conspiracy attached to this outbreak.
It’s odd how these things happen. It reminds me of 2001. An Arnold Schwarzenegger movie was set to release that fall. It was entitled “Collateral Damage” and was about a terrorist bombing in the United States. After 9/11, the film release was understandably postponed several months.
Anyway, the Ebola virus isn’t quite as deadly as “The Last Ship” virus, but it’s evidently close – up to 90% mortality, and according to multiple authorities, Ebola is spreading fast, is uncontained, and is said by some to be out of control.
