RWC and Copper Custom give last call on limited Saiga, Vepr guns

The RWC Group of Tullytown, Pennsylvania, and Copper Custom Armament of Valparaiso, Indiana, have announced that they have small caches of Russian-made Kalashnikov Concern Saiga and Molot Vepr firearms available for sale.

Following sanctions against Russia in response to its increased participation in war-torn Ukraine, the U.S. Treasury Department has blocked trade with the Kalashnikov Concern, Russia’s largest arms conglomerate and its subsidiaries. These will be the last new-production Saiga and Vepr products available in the U.S. for a while.

RWC announced at the beginning of the month that it has two enhanced Saiga products headed to distributors, the Saiga IZ132Z rifle chambered for 7.62x39mm and their IZ109T 12-gauge shotgun. Both are converted Saiga products with pistol grips and stocks unlike factory Saigas which are imported with sporting furniture.

The Saiga IZ132Z is a fairly straightforward AK-pattern rifle with a few solid upgrades. It features a suite of Command Arms accessories including the pistol grip, collapsible buttstock with an adjustable cheek riser and stock tube adapter, a CAA magazine release extension, quad railed handguard and vertical foregrip.

Additionally, the Saiga IZ132Z ships with a single 30-round magazine where available.

The Saiga IZ109T is configured with a standard forend but uses the CAA pistol grip, skeletonized telescoping buttstock, stock tube adapter and custom three-baffle muzzle break. The shotgun will ship with a 10-round polymer magazine.

Distribution of these limited-quantity Saigas will be through AcuSport, Bill Hick’s, Big Rock Sports, United Sporting Company, RSR Group and Sports South & Chattanooga Shooting Supply, beginning on or about September 1, 2014.

Copper Creek Armament takes things to the next level with their thoroughly-upgraded Molot Vepr rifles by Krebs Custom. Also chambered for 7.62x39mm, these KV-13 rifles have been completely overhauled with the best the AK aftermarket has to offer.

Building on the Vepr’s heavier 1.5mm receiver, Krebs tweaks and tunes every factory part to ensure that it’s perfectly aligned and properly fit and polishes the action. They’re essentially disassembled then rebuilt from the ground up.

The barrels are cut down to 16 inches and threaded for 1/2×28 muzzle devices and fit with an M4-compatible side-folding stock tube adapter, Magpul MOE telescoping buttstock and a MOE AK pistol grip. The barrel is re-profiled for use with suppressors and is concentric with the bore. The rifle comes with an A2-style flash hider installed.

The standard handguard assembly is replaced with the new and excellent Krebs UFM Keymod rail and other custom Krebs parts including a Krebs safety lever. After all the rebuilding’s complete they are all completed with the “Krebs Kote” finish which is designed to be better than factory Molot finish which is already one of the best in the game.

Other custom tweaks include a re-profiled barrel trunnion with an integral Picatinny rail for red dot optics and a custom adjustable rear sight positioned on the rear of the dust cover for an extended sight radius. For ordering details visit Copper Custom Armament.

These firearms are all made on proven Russian assembly lines and are made with outstanding heat-treated receivers, hammer-forged, chrome-lined barrels and have a cachet that few manufacturers can begin to approach. If you’re on the market for the last of the new Russian-made guns then these need to be on your short list.
