Informed sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, have told Press TV that absence of international observers to monitor the independence referendum and close competition between pro- and anti-independence camps are the main reasons that have strengthened suspicion of vote-rigging attempts.
Meanwhile, various British political leaders have been launching what has been described by Scottish First Minister Alex Salmond as a “scaremongering” campaign, in an effort to make Scots wary of the possible fallout of a ‘Yes’ to independence.
A survey conducted by Britain-based ICM research foundation and released on Sunday, showed that the pro-independence campaign enjoyed 54-percent support compared to the 46 percent for anti-independence campaign.
The Westminster has repeatedly warned against Scotland’s independence, saying it will jeopardize the UK’s stability and damage its international standing.
Scottish authorities, on the other hand, argue that independence from the UK would free Scotland from London’s austerity policies and unnecessary military spending.

Both sides in the Scottish referendum campaign have held rallies as they make their final efforts to win over undecided voters. Independence supporters attended a mass event in the centre of Glasgow, where they were urged to “vote ‘Yes’ for a prosperous Scotland”. At the same time, pro-UK campaigners gathered nearby to insist the case for independence had not been made.

The Spanish prime minister’s comments come as the country’s Catalan independence movement is closely watching the outcome of Scotland’s referendum to be held on Thursday.
This comes as on September 19, the Catalonia regional parliament is scheduled to approve new legislation that will allow a “consultation” vote on independence from Spain.
Rajoy has described the vote, planned for November 9, as illegal and has insisted that he will not allow the independence vote to take place under any circumstances.

To achieve true independence, Crane suggests the following, among other mandates:
- Establish an independent Central Bank of Scotland.
- Issue a new Scottish (Debt Free) Currency.
- Settle any outstanding debt with new Scottish Currency.
- Take Scotland out of the EU.
- Take Scotland out of NATO.
- Establish strict currency controls for the first 3 years of independence.
- Nationalize the Scottish oil & gas industry.
- Re-take control of the National Health Service.
- Establish a State Employment Agency to provide work/training for all able-bodied residents.
Arguments against independence include that Scotland’s levels of public spending, which are higher than in the rest of the UK, would be difficult to sustain without raising taxes. But that assumes the existing UK/EU investment regime. If Scotland were to say, “We’re starting a new round based on our own assets, via our own new bank,” exciting things might be achieved. A publicly-owned bank with a mandate to serve the interests of the Scottish people could help give the newly independent country true economic sovereignty.

In Glasgow yesterday afternoon a small group of Better Together supporters were handing out material on Sauchiehall Street. Just fifty yards away on Buchanan Street a Yes stall was doing the same thing. The difference was so marked I wanted to quantify it to explain it to you.
I watched each stall for a timed fifteen minutes, immediately one after the other. These are both very busy pedestrianized shopping streets. The crowds going by on each were very similar in size and demographic.
In fifteen minutes the No team managed to give away 7 leaflets and one balloon (the latter to a child). I saw some of the leaflets immediately discarded. The No team were actively approaching people to hand out leaflets, and were shunned by the large majority of people.
By comparison the Yes stall was actively approached by large numbers of people. In the fifteen minutes, 56 people approached the stall and spoke and of those 42 took campaign material, while at least 11 made a donation. The final statistic is remarkable. I counted exactly the next 400 people I could scrutinise reasonably closely on Sauchiehall Street. Of these an extraordinary 52 – that is fully 13% – were wearing Yes badges. There were no large groups and no event in the vicinity that accounted for this. I saw only 2 No badges and one No balloon, again a small child.
I appreciate that this may seem strangely nerdish behaviour, but when I flatly tell you that I have been experiencing a revolutionary groundswell of popular feeling on the streets, that is a perception easily dismissed. The above are hard, statistical facts that in a small way quantify that feeling. The puzzle that remains to be solved is the extraordinary incompatibility between this evidence and the opinion polls.
