RFK Jr. Babbles “Conventional Wisdom” About Koch Brothers and Climate Change; Gets Angry at Reporter

RFK, Jr. claims that the Koch brothers “own” the TEA Party, the Republican Party and part of the Democratic Party. What is it with liberals and their exaggerated fear of the Koch brothers? RFK, Jr.’s comments about the Koch brothers are just as divorced from reality as the claim that the science of climate change is “settled.”
Now that the dust has settled following the Citizens United Supreme Court ruling. The “Left” is spending far more money to take over politics versus the “Right.” Michael Beckel, writing for the liberal Slate.com has the guts to break from Democratic Party talking points:
Democrats are embracing super PACs—the independent political money groups they once derided—and are easily outpacing Republicans in the race for cash, according to the most recent campaign finance filings.
In 2013, the three highest-profile Democratic super PACs focused on congressional elections collectively raised more than $22 million—about four times more than their five mainstream GOP counterparts, according to a Center for Public Integrity analysis of new filings submitted to the Federal Election Commission. Republicans, meanwhile, are again facing an intraparty struggle as Tea Party–affiliated super PACs take aim at mainstream Republicans in primary battles. (link)
RFK, Jr. means well. He’s just ignorant. The left spending more money than the right is a quantifiable fact. Make of it what you will. But it’s a fact, and RFK, Jr. is still operating on information that’s shaped by Democratic Party public relations spin. Perhaps RFK, Jr.’s exaggerated Koch brothers boogieman “truth” offers an analogy on how an otherwise intelligent and well meaning man could also operate on false “conventional wisdom” that climate change science is “settled”? You make the call.
Obviously, money is corrupting our political system and defining what to do about it is beyond the scope of this editorial. But cartoon-level analysis of the problem is not helpful — neither from the right or left.
