WASHINGTON D.C. (INTELLIHUB.COM) — Although the Internet has functioned as a free and open source platform to all Americans and most others around the world since its inception, Obama is now pushing to reclassify the Internet as, get this, a utility.
“In plain English”, President Obama says that he is “asking [the FCC] to recognize that for most Americans, the internet has become an essential part of everyday communication and everyday life.” However, skeptics, like myself, remain leery as history shows the FCC has only tried to limit free speech in the past.
Take the famous rapper Eminem’s song “The Real Slim Shady” for example. Back in May of 2001, in full violation of the U.S. Constitution, the FCC issued a fine against an FM station for playing the “edited” version on air.
The FCC specifically cited the following passages as objectionable: “My bum is on your lips/My bum is on your lips/And if I’m lucky you might just give it a little kiss/And that’s the message we deliver to little kids And expect them not to know what a woman’s [lyric bleeped] is/Of course, they’re gonna know what intercourse is” and “It’s funny cause at the rate I’m goin’/When I’m thirty I’ll be the only person in the nursing home flirting/Pinching nurses asses when I’m [lyric bleeped] or jerkin’/Said I’m jerkin’ but this whole bag of Viagra isn’t workin’.”, reported Rolling Stone.
