Brother John in Critical Condition-Rushed by Ambulance to Emergency Room

Only ten minutes ago, I received a phone call from John’s nursing home in Brevard, NC. The voice on the other end sounded serious and concerned.You know that something serious has happened to your loved ones in nursing homes, when the contact person tries to sound gentle and compassionate.

The male nurse gave me the grim news. Upon entering John’s room, he noticed that blood was coming from John’s lungs, and his wheezing could be heard even from down the hall. When he checked John’s vital signs, he discovered John was unresponsive and his eyes were fixed.

Immediately the nurse called for an ambulance to take John to the emergency room at Transylvania regional hospital.

“It took 6 paramedics to even stabilize John before they could take him away on a stretcher,” he said. “John is on his way to the emergency room even as we speak…”

I have worked in home health care for many years, prior to practicing journalism more recently. All this indicates that John may have gone into cardiac arrest, among other serious symptoms and problems I was told he has at this time.

Was I able to make my special visit to see John, as I mentioned in my previous report? I realized that it might be my last time to see him alive, and so I requested reader support.

Unfortunately, no, I was not able to visit John as hoped. While some kind readers came through compassionately to help me make the long journey there and back with my truck and RV home, it was simply not enough to fund my visit to see John. The Christmas season is a difficult time to receive assistance from others, due to so many other holiday commitments financially.

And now I realize that I was right. John may be dying even as I write this, according to the report I just received by phone.

I will keep you informed as I find out more information. So far, I have not been able to get into contact with the ER at the hospital. I will keep calling and write more on John’s situation as soon as they inform me of his condition.
