Floating Armageddon-- Largest Ship In The World: LNG Ship Provides Tempting Terrorist Target (Picture)

AS THE WORLD’S HUNGER FOR NATURAL GAS AND OIL INCREAES, so do the targets for would be terrorists, botH state and freelance. Shell has contracted the  largest ship in the world to be buult by a South Korean shipbuilder.  The  taker/ship is massisve, larger than four football fields.

Shell has pioneeed technology which; allows the ship to pump gas directly from seabred deosits in australia and refine it directly on the ship.  This will reportedly bypass a procedure of shipping the LNG to distant facilities, but the study focused on tanker facilities and  navagation facilities. The Shell tanker, i sunique aechnology, at present and presents its own dangers..

A  global security study has identified LNG facilities as potential terror targets: 

… LNG is highly volatile and in the era of terrorism may offer more opportunities for terrorist strikes on vulnerable energy infrastructure targets located near residential neighborhoods. One such disaster scenario was developed by James Fay, a professor emeritus of mechanical engineering at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, a former chairman of the Massachusetts Port Authority and a member of the Union of Concerned Scientists. Fay is indeed concerned. He predicts parts of Rhode Island and Massachusetts could be devastated by an attack on LNG tankers regularly passing through navigation canals close to residential areas in Boston and the Rhode Island shoreline on their way to the terminal in Everett, Mass.
