A Wall Street whistle-blower hero, survivor of the mysteriously dead banker phenomenon, is being paid a whopping $57 million for risking his life for Americans. Corporate media along with the United States government, including President Barack Obama, have achieved a sophisticated coverup of the event, according to Jessica Desvarieux’s The Real News Network Black finance and fraud report this week.

“In my opinion, Edward O’Donnell is the person most responsible for bolstering the bank settlements and holding Wall Street accountable,” O’Donnell’s lawyer, David G. Wasinger, who worked from 2003 to 2009 at Countrywide, the once-dominant mortgage lender that Bank of America acquired in early 2008.

Not only that, he’s alive, unlike the growing list of mysteriously fallen bankers of late.

O’Donnell is among a few brave souls, including Dr. Joseph Zernick, who has survived the bank fraud and racketerring that has damaged millions of lives, financially ruined.  While Zernick has survived, he’s done so only by fleeing his Los Angeles apartment and never returning. He managed to flee the country after presenting his meticulously documented information about high-level fraud to officials.

For Zernick’s bravery, in 2011, instead of a medal of honor, he joined the ranks of thousands of targeted individuals persecuted in the U.S. Death threats, as Dupré reported:

“In relation to the untimely death of bank fraud whistleblower Tracy Lawrence and threats of violence against internationally recognized Human Rights Alert head Dr. Joseph Zernik now in Jerusalem, he further exposed Monday through Examiner.com the United States government high-level corruption involving bank fraud directly related to today’s financial crisis resulting in hundreds of thousands of Americans now without home, struggling for food and shelter, basic human rights, violations Occupy Wall Street is fighting. In Dr. Zernik’s Declaration signed Dec. 26, he includes information about threats against him, including that of gunning him down.”

The Hustle, The Coverup, The Dead Bankers

The lawsuit centered on Countrywide’s program nicknamed “the hustle” that rewarded employees for producing more loans for customers, regardless of the quality of those loans. In July, a federal judge ordered Bank of America to pay a $1.27 billion penalty in the hustle case. The former Countrywide executive who faced civil action in the lawsuit, Rebecca Mairone, was ordered to pay a $1 million fine for directing the program. Wasinger said a financial agreement with the federal government regarding O’Donnell’s whistle-blower role in the hustle case had yet to be decided. Federal law might limit his potential reward to a few million dollars. Nevertheless, the case is most important concerning the 1% being held accountable for crooked deals that have harmed thousands of innocent Americans and the possible link to the phenomenon of dead bankers.

The man behind the report on the coverup is Bill Black. associate professor of economics and law at University of Missouri-Kansas City and book author of The Best Way to Rob a Bank Is to Own One. 

“So this is the dog that didn’t bark,” Black told Desvarieux with Real News. “In an agreement with a whistleblower that made possible much of the case against Bank of America that led to its disputed how much is real, but at least an $8 billion recovery from Bank of America, the whistleblower, Mr. O’Donnell, got $57 million.”

Justifiably, however, most readers have not heard about the recent whopping compensation. When this $57 million payment to whistleblower O’Donnell was made a couple of weeks ago, the Justice Department made no statements, no praise, no thanks, no awards, no calling on other whistleblowers to come forward, and no promise that this time the Justice Department would actually follow up with prosecutions.

“Now, you might have thought that that would lead to a big press conference in which people thanked him for his work, first in trying to block the frauds at Countrywide and Bank of America, and then, when that didn’t succeed, telling the government about the frauds and aiding them in the cases and achieving the only really litigation success they’ve had against a senior Bank of America official,” Black said. “But, of course, you’d be wrong.”

Same happened to Dr. Zernick when he exposed the same fraud, and worse. Not only was he not commended, but also, US Marshalls came after him with guns drawn. That’s pretty serious protection of criminal banksters and their associates, and likewise, serious evidence of the height corporatism, or fascism has gripped the U.S.

“And, of course, all this is happening just after the terrible embarrassment of President Obama supporting the passage of the omnibus bill with the bailout giveaway to Citi that was drafted by Citi and was lobbied for both by city and JPMorgan, Jamie Dimon personally,” Black asserts. “So it was the perfect opportunity, as a PR matter, to put the administration on the side of the angels and against the frauds. But we have the consistent pattern–not only are there zero prosecutions–even today the Obama administration never misses an opportunity to miss an opportunity to hold the banksters accountable.”

The media covered the award somewhat, and asked the Justice Department for comment, but they said, no comment.

“They couldn’t even muster during these holidays a thank you for the person who suffered so much by bringing the truth in. So, yes, The New York Times previously, two years ago, when Mr. O’Donnell’s identity first became known. … what The New York Times knew at that point is that O’Donnell, when he was an executive with Countrywide, had tried to prevent these frauds, warned against them, tried to get the Bank of America, which acquired Countrywide, to stop the frauds. All of this failed, and then he’d gone to the Justice Department. So he is obviously the hero in the piece.

That New York Times article two years ago had only snide words about O’Donnell, basically a smear, according to Black.

“This time around, at least they didn’t smear him, but they didn’t have any particularly good words of their own either,” Black said. “And as I said, the real story is the administration, and that includes the president, the Department of Justice, and the top regulator, Mr. Curry of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.

“None of these people could be bothered to thank the whistleblower. None of them could be bothered to take the opportunity, with all this publicity potential, to ask other whistleblowers to come forward. And, of course, none of them made the promise that they would actually change and prosecute people.”

O’Donnell might not be the only whistle-blower standing to collect a percentage of Bank of America’s payout to the federal government. The United States settlement with Bank of America mentions three other false-claims lawsuits brought against the bank. Names of those whistle-blowers, like Mr. O’Donnell’s, were not identified in the settlement agreement.

This week, Dr. Zernick requested that the Los Angeles Jewish “charity” group, that spearheaded fraud and racketeering along with the same banks O’Donnell has exposed, monetarily compensate him.

Make no mistake. This news and its coverup are big. It is opined that both are closely linked to the long list of now silent bankers who recently died. A google search shows that list to include the following:
