Gray State: The Rise – Director & Screenwriter Found Dead, Labeled Murder-Suicide

According to the official Gray State Facebook profile, David Crowley,  director and screenwriter of the film, has died. Crowley, along with his wife and five year old daughter, were found in their Apple Valley home in what police have labeled a murder-suicide.

Gray State: The Rise, still in production, is a dystopic film showcasing a near-future America occupied by a militaristic police state, filled with FEMA camps, quarantines, and action-packed explosions.

While the film received quite a bit of buzz online, it has been in production for over four years, seemingly stuck in a quagmire of financial issues.

A local news source, the Star Tribune, confirmed the deaths, stating that a neighbor had discovered the bodies.

The three people found dead in an Apple Valley home Saturday afternoon included two adults and one child, police said Sunday morning.

Officers went to a house in the 1000 block of Ramsdell Drive after a neighbor called about bodies inside. A statement from Apple Valley police Sunday morning said those dead included a child, and that they considered it “an apparent murder-suicide.”

Next-door neighbor Collin Prochnow, who discovered the bodies and notified police, said Sunday that the deceased were David Crowley, 29, his wife, Komel, 28, and their 5-year-old daughter.

Several articles have been written about David Crowley over the years, questioning his past, as well as the film’s agenda. According to his LinkedIn profile, Mr. Crowley served with the US Army in Germany, Iraq, and Afghanistan. Upon returning home, he dove into film-making and political activism with a strong focus on Constitutional and Libertarian ideals.
