We begin our statement by expressing opposition to these organizations’ stances concerning the safety of fluoride and further clarify what an endorsement by any of these organizations represents.  The summary shown below is intended to place the dental trade organizations’ endorsements in their proper perspective.  Fluoridation provides good P.R. for dental trade associations but bad medicine for those it’s supposedly meant to serve.

  1. The American Dental Association (ADA) (trade association) performs no actual research of their own.

  2. The California Dental Association (CDA) (trade association) has successfully argued in court that they assume no legal liability for any harm that may result from their recommendations.

  3. Dental organizations are not responsible for studying adverse systemic effects of water fluoridation.

  4. The ADA has never provided their members any large scale blinded studies which prove that fluoridation reduces tooth decay.  An expert for the ADA testified in court that she was not aware of any blinded animal or broad-based blinded human epidemiological studies that have ever found a reduction in tooth decay from drinking water with one part per million fluoride.

  5. The ADA has never polled their membership for their knowledge or opinion of water fluoridation.

  6. Dentists promoting fluoridation trust the marketing materials from the ADA without questioning their sources (a.k.a. endorsements).

  7. No pro-fluoridation advocate, dental professional, dental associations, or governmental agencies are willing to stand up in a public forum to defend their claims of how safe and effective they believe water fluoridation to be.  If there are, then we are inviting those who believe fluoride to be safe and effective to participate in Secure Arkansas’ internet forum to discuss their views about why they support water fluoridation – March 2, 2015 at 7:00 pm.  Contact Secure Arkansas at 501-250-6474 or 870-214-1100, or email us at [email protected] if you would like to participate in our forum.

Dental professionals who promote water fluoridation should, in our opinion, have an ethical and moral obligation to treat the children of poor families that they desperately want to help by fluoridating the entire water supply.  Dentists should be embarrassed that they, and more of their colleagues, do not treat the children that are most in need.  Although Secure Arkansas does not advocate mandating anything ever, might it be suggested that if the dental community is so intent on forcing a fluoridation mandate on the people of Arkansas, maybe the Arkansas Legislators should  consider mandating that dentists treat the tooth decay of the poor children in Arkansas for free?!  After all, it’s not about the money, right?

Of the approximately 1,100 dentists in Arkansas, less than a third accept Medicaid.

Maybe it really IS about the money?!  “A key issue for Medicaid is having a sufficient number of providers willing to participate.”

“A 1998 survey of state Medicaid authorities by the National Conference of State Legislatures reported that, on average, only 16 percent of dentists in the 35 responding states participate actively in Medicaid.”  Source: Dep’t of Health & Human Services. ARE DENTISTS REALLY QUALIFIED TO BE FLUORIDE EXPERTS ?

www.DentalConfessions.com

written by Jim Maxey, DDS

I graduated from dental school in 1972 and the dental schools water fluoridation educational curriculum has not changed since then. To be licensed in Oklahoma and other states a dentist has to graduate from a dental school that is accredited by the American Dental Association (ADA).  For a dental school to be accredited by the ADA that school has to meet the very strict curriculum requirements of the ADA.  All accredited dental schools are just carbon copies of each other so it doesn’t matter which ADA accredited dental school one attends as they are all the same except maybe for the color of the wallpaper.

In dental school, one day during one of our preventative dentistry courses, only a very few minutes was devoted to telling us students that “fluoridated drinking water reduced and prevented tooth decay and it was safe and caused no bodily harm.” If a student said something about hearing that fluoride was a toxic chemical and should not be added to the drinking water, we were instructed very explicitly that it is the dentists who are the “experts” and that the public does not know anything about fluoride and that fluoride was safe and that anyone who disagreed was unscientific, misinformed, a fear monger and  should be seriously denigrated…and if we ever expected to graduate from dental school we had darn well better defend water fluoridation and never question it.

That was it, no book, no PowerPoint, no tests, no nothing…just this brief statement one day.

That was the total amount of “facts” we students were taught about water fluoridation science.    The ADA does not want dentists to know truthful, accurate and undistorted water fluoridation science so they intentionally keep it out of the dental school curriculum and instead just supply dentist with rehearsed scripted messages to spout. The public and most dentists unfortunately hold it that this very brief indoctrination (brainwashing) dentists are given in dental school somehow makes dentist fluoridation “experts.”

Since the ADA controls the dental school curriculum, as well as dentistry in general, a potential dental student has to first pass the ADA’s Dental Aptitude Test to be accepted to a dental school.  Another ADA test has to be passed to advance to the third year and again at the end of the fourth year to graduate. Then a dentist has to graduate from an ADA accredited school to be licensed. Then there is the back door the ADA has into all the state dental boards.

Dentists take what they learn in dental school as Gospel Truth.  We are taught many very specific procedures and techniques for treating tooth decay and gum diseases. We don’t deviate. We do as we are taught.  If we expect to graduate from dental school we had darn well do as we are told and taught.  If we don’t do as taught, we fail. This water fluoridation scenario is the same. Dentists don’t question their dental school fluoridation teachings, they take it as GOSPEL TRUTH which means that dentists will attack and denigrate anyone who is opposed to fluoridation.  These ADA controlled dental schools are very good at turning out very skilled and professional dentists…but these schools are total failures at turning out anything that even remotely resembles a “fluoridation expert.”

Because of the American Dental Association’s control over dental schools there is no such thing as a scientifically accurate Water Fluoridation 101 course taught in any dental school in this country, and there never has been. Should any dentists approach you with that pretense that they are the “experts,” I suggest you ask them to document their qualifications and have them show you on their dental school course transcript where their fluoride coursework is documented. Also ask them to document if they have taken any continuing education courses on water fluoridation since their graduation from dental school.  They won’t be able to provide any documentation as no courses have ever existed. The public has been misled into believing that dentists are water fluoridation “experts” when in fact that is clearly not the case.  Dentists are so far removed from the accurate water fluoridation science that they are not even in the ballpark of scientifically accurate water fluoridation science. Truth decay causes fluoridation…

Fluoride knowledge and prescription practices among dentists Department of Community Dentistry, Case School of Dental Medicine, Cleveland, OH

“Deficiencies and ambiguity in respondents’ fluorides knowledge as well as prescription practices indicated a need for educational interventions.”

Knowledge, Attitudes, Uses of Fluorides among Dentist in Texas

“One year after the recommendation by the ADA were published, there is still a major lack of current knowledge among practitioners in this sampling frame for the state of Texas.  It is expected by the public that dentists be knowledgeable about the products they use, but this study shows that steps have to be taken to address the lack of understanding about the predominant mode of action of fluoride.”  “Ignorance of or failure to heed guidelines may result in an adverse effect on the incidence of dental caries in the population.”

Knowledge and use of fluoride among Indiana dental professionals

Conclusion: The majority of dental professionals surveyed were unaware of the current understanding of fluoride’s predominant posteruptive mode of action through remineralization of incipient carious lesions.  Additional research is indicated to assess fluoride knowledge and protocols of dental professionals nationwide.  Educational efforts are needed to promote the appropriate use of fluoride.

The good news is that numerous dentists are changing their minds by researching balanced reviews of research not taught in dental school.  Secure Arkansas recommends that you question everything and do your own research.

Misinformed pro-fluoride dentists seem to prefer to repeat the discredited 1940s mythology of the “magic bullet” rather than admit that any perceived benefit from fluoride is topical.  Putting fluoride in the water makes no sense to us because swallowing fluoride is like swallowing sun screen to help prevent a sunburn!

Dentists enjoying their mantle of authority tell anecdotal stories that are not substantiated by epidemiological evidence.  They claim to see a worsening of the dental decay rate after fluoride is removed from the water supply.  However, studies done to evaluate the impact after a period of several years all found that the decay rate remained stable or continued to decrease after fluoridation ceased.

Although these results surprised the dental researchers conducting the studies, they were consistent with world studies using World Health Organization data that demonstrate both fluoridated and non-fluoridated countries had the same decrease in cavities over the same period of time.

The general public should trust the scientific and inclusive whole health studies such as those conducted in the Netherlands that concluded, “As a summary of our research, we are now convinced that fluoridation of the water supplies causes a low-grade intoxication of the whole population, with only the approximately 5 percent most sensitive persons showing acute symptoms. The whole population being subjected to low-grade poisoning means that their immune systems are constantly overtaxed.  With all the other poisonous influences in our environment, this can hasten health calamities”.  (Cited in this publication by Dr. Hans Moolenburgh)  Following publication of their research results, water fluoridation in Holland was discontinued.

Many dentists proclaim that fluoride, when ingested, is “safe and effective” for everyone, yet they do not have the knowledge nor the authority to make this statement.

SPECIAL NOTE:  Regarding those who are qualified and have the authority to determine the effect of fluoride on the human body:  the Arkansas Dental Code NEVER mentions that dentists are authorized to diagnose or treat any conditions regarding our bones, thyroid, brain, or any other body functions that ingested fluoride can affect.  The dentists’ scope of practice does not include what happens to a person’s health after fluoride has been ingested.  “Practicing dentistry” means: the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention, and treatment by nonsurgical, surgical or related procedures of diseases, disorders, and conditions of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area, and the adjacent and associated structures and their impact on the human body, but not for the purpose of treating diseases, disorders and conditions unrelated to the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and the adjacent and associated structures.

Speaking of the thyroid, check out a newly released study article.  “Fluoride in drinking water may trigger depression and weight gain”, warn scientists.  A study of 98 percent of [General Practitioners’] practices in England found that high rates of underactive thyroid were 30 percent more likely in areas of the greatest fluoridation.  It could mean that up to 15,000 people are suffering needlessly from thyroid problems which can cause depression, weight gain, fatigue and aching muscles,” University of Kent has warned.  “The researchers compared areas to records from 7,935 general practices covering around 95 percent of the English population in 2012-2013.”

Why are studies like this not being conducted in the most fluoridated country in the world (the U.S.)?  Another article on this study states: “The scientists argue public health policy, which currently encourages the fluoridation of water to protect the nation’s tooth health, should be revised in light of their research.”

On the other hand, toxicologists ethically tend to give us the truth about possible harm.  Dr. Phyllis Mullenix, PhD, was a leading neurotoxicologist at the Forsyth Dental Center in Boston, a Harvard affiliate, to investigate the toxicity of materials used in dentistry.

In this YouTube video, Dr. Mullenix discusses the toxicity of water fluoridation at the 2009 International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology Conference (IAOMT).  She connects the dots with which we, not being medical doctors or scientists, usually don’t link the effects of fluoride.

Have you ever wondered if any governmental agency has ever monitored us for possible harm from fluoride?   Check out USA’s Agency For Toxic Substances and Diseases (ATSDR) 2003 report which contains a series of Public Health statements about hazardous substances and their health effects.  The full PDF report can be seen here.

Here is a report from 2013 discussing the burden of disease and premature mortality in Ireland and the implications of water fluoridation.  Included are key findings and observations on fluoride by the U.S. National Research Council examined within the context of a comparison of population health and disease burdens between fluoridated Republic of Ireland and non-fluoridated Northern Ireland and Europe.  This report was prepared for the government of Ireland, the European Commission and World Health Organization. Compiled and written by Declan Waugh, BSc. CEnv. No one has ever died from a deficiency of fluoride, but they have from lack of access to affordable dental care!

FRAUD AT THE NATIONAL ACADEMY OF SCIENCES – IS FLUORIDE A NUTRIENT? Review of the National Academy of Sciences’ Dietary References Intakes

Evidence about whether ingested fluoride is an essential nutrient is discussed by various professionals and agencies.  Given the evidence presented, is the National Academy of Sciences’ claim that fluoride is a nutrient, fraudulent?  (YES, it seems that their claim is fraudulent!  Fluoride is NOT a nutrient!)  Has there ever been a case of fluoride-deficiency disease documented (like Vitamin C deficiency causes scurvy, for example)?

Seems that by publishing this article, the American Nutrition Association agrees that fluoride is not an essential nutrient.

A perfect example of a dentist that has done his research is Bill Osmunson, DDS MPH.  Read this letter written by Dr. Osmunson to EPA, HHS, and the CDC, and PLEASE view his short video.

The FDA-required warning should provide some clarification as to the “safety” of fluoride.  The FDA now requires all toothpaste containing fluoride to have the following disclaimer attached:

“WARNING: Keep out of reach of children under 6 years of age. In case of accidental ingestion, seek professional assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately.”

The amount of toothpaste recommended for brushing your teeth is a PEA-SIZED amount or about 1 milligram.  One liter of water in a fluoridated community will contain one milligram for every 8 oz of water.  Swallowing more than this amount of fluoride toothpaste is considered reason enough to contact the Poison Control Center!  How much toothpaste do YOU put on YOUR toothbrush?  Most people fill up their bristles with so much toothpaste that it looks like an ice cream cone!  And how much fluoridated water and fluoride-containing products are you ingesting daily that correspond to the same amount of fluoride in your toothpaste?  According to the back of your toothpaste tube, you’re being poisoned!
