Parents Report Stolen Car With Child Inside & Subsequently Get Terrorized by Police

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

While the Guzman family of Fairfield, Washington were packing and preparing to go on vacation Monday morning, their car was stolen with their son, Brock, asleep in the backseat. After reporting the kidnapping and theft to police, the parents themselves were subsequently harassed by the responding officers.

Officers reporting to the scene asked the boys mother if they could search the house to be sure the child was not inside. Suzanne Guzman did not want officers to enter her house in her husbands absence, due to potential danger to the officers from the family’s dogs. Rather than searching for the stolen car and child, officers became adamant that they be allowed to enter. This led to a confrontation between the hysterical mother and police, who then used a nail polish stain on the families carpet to justify a forced entry, which included the use of force on the missing child’s mother. Suzanne and her husband Paul were then both detained by officers and taken in a squad car to police headquarters, where they were later released.

Meanwhile, the child continued to sleep for nearly two hours in the car until it was reported in a nearby neighborhood, where it had been abandoned by the thief. While law enforcement was busy harassing a family, who were hysterical over the kidnapping of their son, they were unable to be of any assistance in locating the car or the child, whose safety was potentially in danger the entire time. The priorities of the investigating officers seem frighteningly misaligned, making a terrible situation for the Guzman family all that much worse.

“Obviously these officers need better training on how to deal with a mother that is hysterical about losing her kid,” said Paul Guzman. “You got to have some compassion for somebody whose kids are missing. In my opinion, it was wrong. It was not a professional way to handle it if your son is missing.”

The Guzman family plans to file a complaint against the police. Meanwhile, officials with the police are attempting to validate their gross misconduct by appealing to thoroughness. They claim their actions were absolutely necessary, even though they did nothing to help and made a bad situation worse. Police now claim to have an unnamed person of interest in the kidnapping. Whether or not the person who perpetrated that crime is found, the Guzman family will never get back their trust in those who mistreated them while tasked with assisting them. A theme becoming all too familiar with families who call the police only to see their situation get worse.
