“Robocop” in high-speeding car hits suspect
A Marana, Arizona, police officer who calls himself “Robocop” intentionally drove his cruiser at a high speed into a suspect. The incident occurred on February 19 and was caught on video by two different police cameras.
The man who was hit, Mario Valencia, had allegedly robbed a convenience store dressed only in his underwear, broken into a church and set a fire, invaded a home and stolen a car. He then drove the stolen car to a Wal-Mart where he allegedly stole a rifle and a box of ammunition.
On the videos, Valencia is seen walking down an empty street with a rifle in his hands. At one point he positions the rifle under his chin and threatens to kill himself. One officer is slowly driving behind Valencia as he shoots the rifle in the air. A second police cruiser approaches and the first officer tells its driver to stay back because the suspect is armed. Then “Robocop”, police officer Michael Rapiejko, who is driving the second cruiser, starts speeding toward Valencia; his high-speeding car slams into Valencia from the back and clips him, sending him flying into the air before the car crashes through a cinderblock retaining wall and shatters the windshield.
Valencia survived the collision. He was hospitalized with serious injuries for two days then booked into jail.
“Robocop” was placed on administrative leave because the incident was considered use of force. He was cleared of any wrongdoing by the County Attorney’s office and is back on the force. morehere
