This dog playing with a deer, who was in the custody of a licensed veterinarian, has gone viral and entered what we hope will be a long-running series on seemingly unlikely trans-species friendships.
We’ve found a Web comment that *seems* legitimate as to the background of how this video of the deer and dog came into being. An Andrew, 13 years of age, wrote that this occurred in his front yard. According to Andrew, his brother Matt Carriker, the YouTube account holder, found a malnourished baby deer at an “auction” and took it home.
The Carrikers caged the deer, Andrew wrote, which made the dog accustomed to the wild animal. The Carrikers supposedly bottle-fed the deer back to health; and when healthy, “Theen” took to their yard. Andrew claimed that while in the care of the Carrikers “Theen” loved cat food and would turn down deer feed.
Last we have heard, Theen reunited with wild deer and was stopping by the Carrikers’ house once a month.

He frequently comes back to the house to eat some catfood and play with our dog, Buddy. He doesn’t care much for deer corn. Ellen Degeneres showed this video on her show and website on January 22, 2010! Anderson Cooper 360 showed the video on March 30, 2010! This was on the Bonnie Hunt show on March 31, 2010!
