Incredible: 3.3 MILLION Year Old Stone Tools Found in Kenya
To think we know everything about our origins as a species would be an incredibly arrogant and incorrect view to hold.

The oldest stone tools previously known were 700,000 years old. New artefacts discovered in Kenya, however, make those seem like a relatively modern discovery.
These stone tools are 3.3 million years old, an almost unfathomable length of time, and are ‘sophisticated enough’ to not be the first instance of such tools. Scientists who made the discovery believed they were used for tasks such as chopping wood and cracking open nuts.

But who made these tools and who used them?
Jason Lewis, one of the scientists who made the discovery, says “the jury is still out on that”. One possibility is a species that is yet to be discovered by science.

‘Predate humans’: Stone tools made 3.3mn years ago found in Kenya
Archaeologists on a dig in Kenya made an unexpected discovery – 3.3-million-year-old stone tools that could disprove the theory that the Homo genus was the first to use such tools. The makers of the tools remain a mystery.
The findings have been published in the journal Nature by a group of scientists, including Sonia Harmand and Jason Lewis of Stony Brook University in New York. The paper lists 149 stone artifacts, which were discovered west of Lake Turkana in a remote region in northern Kenya.“
We knew at the moment of discovery that they would be the oldest stone tools in the world,” the Toronto Star quoted Lewis as saying. “Once the geological analyses came back later that year that in fact they were older than 3 million years, we were even more astonished…”
