Students Find Disgusting Bugs in Michelle Obama Lunch
Between finding burnt plastic on burritos, and serving 6-year-old expired meat, Michelle Obama’s lunch program just can’t catch a break. The National School Lunch Program, which was the brainchild of the first lady, has a dreary history of serving students sub par, and sometimes outright dangerous food. Since its inception in 2012, more than 1 million students have opted out of the program.
A recent story from Conroe, Texas is a perfect example of why so many students and parents are fleeing en masse from the horrific food standards of the lunch program. Teenagers from the local high school were horrified to find bugs in the broccoli that was being served in the cafeteria. As one mother put it “There’s no way they could’ve missed them, picking up a handful of broccoli like they do with their gloves on and not seen these ginormous bugs.” The school later sent a vague email to parents that notified them of a complaint with their cafeteria, and informed them that they were addressing the problem.
Food inspectors examined the broccoli and discovered more of the bugs, which they said were aphids. They claimed that the infestation was limited to that batch. Despite their assurances, some of the parents are still taking their kids out of the lunch program. “She will be taking lunches,” Evans told Click2Houston. “She will not be eating it anymore, at all.”
