RI- Sunday started out just like any other summer day at the Salty Brine Beach in Narragansett, RI. Some children were building sandcastles, while others were in the water trying to cool off on a hot summer day in RI. T
hat is until all of a sudden, they heard a low rumble, and then saw a huge explosion of sand erupt, propelling a 50 yr old women who was sitting in her chair by the waters edge, 6 ft into the air as startled eyewitnesses looked on in horror.
Rhode Island beach was evacuated after the explosion threw a 50-year-old woman off the sand and onto rocks – as police hunt for suspect who may have planted a bomb
The explosion occurred on Rhode Island’s Salty Brine Beach at about 11:15am, Saturday, July 11.
It threw a 50-year-old woman sitting on the beach several feet into the air before she came down on some nearby rocks. The injured woman was taken to South County Hospital; her condition remains unknown
Police are now hunting for a possible suspect or suspects who may have planted a device. Based on the blast, the explosion apparently came from beneath the sand, but the exact cause of the explosion is not yet clear
Police, firefighters and bomb squad are at scene; investigation is ongoing
