My friend and colleague Lance Wallace PhD, retired senior chemist at EPA, analyzed fabric softeners including Bounce.He was so assigned because the Consumer Product Safety Commission had received more complaints about Bounce than about any other consumer product in the 1990s!
He found three pages of toxic chemicals, sufficient to kill human brain cells even by inhalation from a distance (i.e., second-hand inhalation), and also to cause cancer and birth defects.

Yes those things are horrible. There’s a reason they make great rodent repellents. Sometimes when walking outside I’ll walk by someone who must have put two or three dryer sheets in and even at the end of their driveway 30 feet from the dryer vent I just about pass out when I get a good whiff of that nastiness.
