Deadly home invasion earns two men get 28 years in prison
Two Tennessee men responsible for a deadly home invasion robbery involving drugs in 2011 have each been sentenced by a federal court Tuesday to 28 years in prison.
Demario Winston, 27, also of Clarksville, and Michael Massey, 26, of Lexington, admitted to planning robbery after learning about a stash of cocaine and money in the home’s basement.
On May 7, 2011, Massey used a sledge hammer to break open the front door of the home and once inside, Winston and Massey, who were both armed, engaged in a gun fight with a man on the first floor of the home.
However, once shots were fired, the other suspects fled from the home, leaving Winston and Massey behind, who continued on with the plan to steal the drugs and money.
Trying to get a safe opened, Winston pistol-whipped one of the occupants, Raul Triana, in the face with a handgun and later gunned him down.
Massey, who was ordered to pay $17,000 in restitution in addition to serving time in prison, also confessed to his part in an October 2011 armed robbery of the owner of a Clarksville-based construction company.
The two men were charged with conspiracy to commit Hobbs Act Robbery – a robbery that occurs under actual or threatened force – and use of a firearm in a crime of violence resulting in death. Both Winston and Massey pleaded guilty to the charges back in May.
