“I don’t have to have a warrant!”: Three Cops Suspended After Responding to College Noise Complaint with Stun Guns, Batons

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

This is what happens when someone calls the cops on you for playing loud music after hours in the modern American police state.

You get yanked from your apartment, thrown to the ground, beat with a baton and stun gunned, then you get arrested on charges that have nothing to do with playing loud music after hours.

Then again, how did these cops not show up to a complaint of a loud party on a college campus and somehow fail to realize just about every last young adult there would whip out a cell phone with a camera on it and start filming this?

It was after 2:30 a.m. and the cops showed up to an apartment for a noise complaint at the behest of a University of Alabama officer.

In the video above, as things escalate, a dispute is raised over the cop claiming the guy who answered the door has to come outside. The cop is holding the guy’s shirt with his foot in the door as the people at the party keep asking what the student is under arrest for.

At some point the cop apparently tries to claim the student touched him, but since everyone is holding cameras on the cop filming him the entire time, they instantly chime in that he didn’t touch the cop and everything is on tape to prove it. Another person tells the cop he has to have a warrant unless someone is being arrested or detained. Finally the cop says that student whose shirt he is holding is under arrest, but after repeated questions of the group, the cop cannot answer what the student is under arrest for.

“I don’t have to have a warrant,” the officer responds, before yelling, “I’m going to ask you one more time to get outside, now!”

Frustrated as the group attempts to shut the door on the officer, he forces his way through the door and brutally shoves one student to the ground and then pushes the other student up against the wall and starts beating him before pulling him outside where other cops are waiting.

The cop hits the student with a stun gun, while they hold him down later as another beats him repeatedly with a baton, all while the student appears to be holding his hands up in fear.

Another student gets a beat down after being drug outside as well. All told, three students were arrested on various charges, including harassment, obstructing justice and resisting arrest.

What do any of those charges have to do with turning the music down, again?

Because no one here was charged with disturbing the peace. If the cops had not shown up, nobody would have been “harassed” (although, from the video is looks like the cop is the one doing the harassing) and there would have been no “crimes” of “obstructing justice” (whatever “justice” means here) and “resisting arrest”.

So, if no cops had shown up on scene, no crimes would have been committed apparently.

Here are the hardened criminals the police protected society from that night:

The incident was recorded not just from multiple angles inside and outside the apartment, but also on the body cameras worn by the officers at the time as well. Because of the preponderance of video evidence in the case, three officers in this incident have now been suspended pending an investigation (albeit, with pay) as all the footage is reviewed.

Tuscaloosa Police Chief Steve Anderson told a press conference Monday he was, “deeply disturbed and disappointed by the way officers responded,” Reuters reported.

Yep, the age of instant video. Kinda hard to hide police brutality when everyone has a phone with a camera on it these days.
