India’s VP: Western countries wrong to link Islam with terrorism [Picture]

% of readers think this story is Fact. Add your two cents.

Western countries have conveniently forgotten their own historuies of sectarian violence.  Spain–the Inquisition, Great Britain, the Civil Wars, Cromwell, the Reformation. Once opon a time, the Presbyterians, the Church of England and the Catholics were at each other’s throats. Pardon me for any mistaken historical references.  These days, it seems that if it happened more than 10 years ago, we forget it ever happened.  Does anyone remember Northern Ireland?   How many religious-excused wars have wiped zillions off the face of the earth in the last thousand years?  Of course, that’s too far back in history for our brains to remember.  Now, with the addictive 24-hour news cycle, all the wouldbe jihadissts in the world want to strap on a bomb and get their minute on the news.  And then there are the news junkies who fuel the whole process. Western countries linking Islam with terrorism not true: Ansari,” Daily Excelsior, November 7, 2015:

NEW DELHI, Nov 6: Refuting the view by Western world that Asian countries are using Islam for encouraging terrorism, Vice-President M Hamid Ansari has said there is no place for intolerance in Islam.

Addressing reports on board the special aircraft, on his return from Bali to New Delhi, Dr Ansari said 70 per cent of Muslims in the world reside in Asian countries and hence the notion that West Asian countries are determining the agenda for terrorism for Islam is wrong.

Dr Ansari said during his meeting with Muslim community in Indonesia on his visit, they expressed concern over the fact that terrorism is linked to religion like Islam.

He told them that it was primarily the opinion of the Western world that the agenda for Islam is being determined in West Asia.

Dr Ansari told the Muslim community in Indonesia that a sizeable section of the Muslim population of the world lives in countries like Indonesia, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan and China which are not a part of West Asia. (UNI)  source
