The French Prosecutor in charge of the investigation into the Paris Attacks has announced that 2 terrorists died and eight were taken into custody after a prolonged gunfight during the night which seen one female detonate a suicide belt and over 5000 rounds fired by the terrorists. What is not clear is the whereabouts of mastermind Abdelhamid Abaaoud & suspect Salah Abdeslam.

Reports are mixed with some saying that Abdelhamid Abaaoud was taken out in the raid and others saying it is unclear.

The alleged sponsor and mastermind of the November 13 massacre in Paris, Abdelhamid Abaaoud, was killed in a Wednesday raid by French forces in the Parisian suburb of Saint-Denis, a media report suggests.

Abaaoud, who was the primary target of the special operation was killed, the Washington Post reported, citing two senior European intelligence officials.

According to another report, only body parts were found at the scene of the raid. French teams were forced to use powerful munitions in the operation and one of the female terrorists allegedly blew herself up during the raid, causing an entire floor of the building to collapse, CNN reported, citing a Belgian counterterrorism official. Investigators will have to use DNA analysis to determine whether Abaaoud was killed, the source added.

A Europe wide warrant is now out for Abdeslam and authorities are on the look out for a Citreon Xsara as they increase efforts to hunt down one of the worlds most wanted.

The fate of the alleged mastermind of the Paris terror attacks remains unclear after police raided an apartment where he was suspected to have been holed up.

A senior police official said he believed Abdelhamid Abaaoud, who had previously been thought to be in Syria, was inside the building in Saint Denis with five other heavily armed people when more than 100 officers stormed the apartment early on Wednesday.

It comes as French authorities sent out a bulletin to police across Europe asking them to watch out for a Citroen Xsara car that could be carrying Salah Abdeslam, who is wanted in connection with the attacks in the French capital that left 129 dead.

By the sounds of it, we may be waiting some time to learn the identities of the dead terrorists due to the detonation of at least one suicide belt by a female operative. Authorities are saying it will take DNA testing to get the identification. Its unclear if the second dead terrorists also detonated a device in the battle that went on for hours, with thousands of rounds exchanged and a police sniper neutralising a terrorist through a window.

The flat itself is a squat and due to the explosions on of the floors has caved in and this too is hampering the investigation.

There are many threads we can pull on in this case and tomorrow night I will welcome Max Igan and Christopher Everard onto The Kev Baker Show to give their take on what really went down in Paris on Friday the 13th and the days that followed.

One thing that is niggling at me is this guy Salah Abdeslam.

How many times is Abdeslam going to evade capture! This is a guy that was already known to intelligence services and even stopped in the hours after the attack… and released!!

Now we are learning he is still on the run, and I’m beginning to think there is something fishy about this character in particular.

Abdeslam is said to have hired cars in his name, and used his own identity to book into a hotel in the days leading up to the attack. Is it just me or does it seem strange that a man that knows he is on the spooks radar, actually uses his own name in the preparation for a terror spectacular, running the risk of alerting authorities to his movements that surely must have been under surveillance?

If Abdeslam isnt working with/for the intelligence agencies as some kind of double agent, then surely there are people within the intelligence world pulling strings to enable his good luck on so many occasions. Contrary to what we may feel and think about the spooks, they are not incompetent. This is why I feel there was a stand down to allow this attack to happen

This is one story that is not going to go away anytime soon with Iraqi intelligence claiming that upto 24 may be part of this wider network, meaning there are more out there waiting to act.
