Fighting ISIS or Regime Change? Western Airstrike Targets Syrian Army Base, Kills 3 Soldiers

Is the West really fighting ISIS, or still seeking regime change in Syria?

Watch a video of this report here:

Bombers from the US-led coalition that is allegedly fighting ISIS have launched a total of nine missiles into a Syrian Arab Army base in the province of Deir ez Zor.

The attack killed three Syrian soldiers and injured thirteen others.

The Syrian foreign ministry has condemned the attack:

“Syria strongly condemns the act of aggression by the US-led coalition that contradicts the UN Charter on goals and principles.”

Interestingly, this attack has not been condemned by Western leaders and millions of people have not changed their Facebook profile picture to include a Syrian flag.

Colonel Steve Warren of the coalition denies any involvement in the incident:

“We’ve seen those Syrian reports but we did not conduct any strikes in that part of Deir ez Zor yesterday. So we see no evidence.”

The province contains a number of oilfields and is mostly under the control of ISIS. As this is the first such incident since the coalition’s attacks have begun, it could very well have been a misplaced strike; mistakes do happen in warfare. Due to the immensely high level of coordination between the Syrian Arab Army and Russia, it is highly unlikely that any misplaced strike was of Russian origin and is now being blamed upon the West.

However, the members of the US-led coalition have been seeking regime change in Syria since the very beginning. France helped to create the very terrorist forces that claimed responsibility for the recent attacks in Paris in an attempt to overthrow Assad, Obama just reaffirmed that the US believes Assad is the number one problem in Syria, and, the British keep saying that Assad ‘has to go’.

The Syrian Arab Army is widely credited as being the world’s number one terrorist fighting force and has only seen even greater successes after being supported by the Russian airforce.

Turkey just shot down a Russian bomber, leading to the death of one of the pilots, as Russia began targeting ISIS’s oil industry that is understood to have many Turkish buyers. It could be possible that Turkey and the US-led coalition believe the Syrian Arab Army and Russia are having just a little too much success in their fight against terrorism.

This attack could be the first step in a dangerous escalation against the legal Syrian government. Russia has already deployed one of the world’s most advanced air defence systems into Syria, and is now likely to expand its deployment to all manner of Syrian government facilities that could be potential targets for the coalition.

We need not spend too much time elaborating on the response that any coalition member would have to seeing one of their aircraft shot down by a Russian missile. Instead of denying that this event even took place, the so-called coalition would do well to acknowledge the incident, issue an apology, and, if they really respected international law, withdraw from Syrian territory immediately in order to defuse this ever more volatile situation.

What is the West trying to achieve, the destruction of ISIS or the destruction of the Syrian state?
