Ear Rape: Kanye West Wants to Make a “Tribute” Album of David Bowie Covers. Great.

David Bowie’s body isn’t even cold yet, and already Kanye West is talking about making an album of David Bowie Covers… Kanye style.

Hey I know. Why doesn’t Kanye just take all of David Bowie’s work, throw it in a trashcan, take a dump on it, then light the thing on fire?

Oh wait, he apparently is.

The media is referring to it as a “tribute”.

West, who refers to The Rolling Stones, Jimi Hendrix, and the Beatles as “those musicians you see in those old black-and-white photos,” and who has said, “I realize that my place and position in history is that I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade,” and who said that his greatest pain is that he will not be able to see himself perform live and that he’s a genius and if the Bible was rewritten today, he’d be in it:

“I’m doing pretty good as far as geniuses go… I’m like a machine. I’m a robot. You cannot offend a robot… I’m going down as a legend, whether or not you like me or not. I am the new Jim Morrison. I am the new Kurt Cobain… The Bible had 20, 30, 40, 50 characters in it. You don’t think that I would be one of the characters of today’s modern Bible?” (source)

… is now going to piss all over Bowie’s work, because, you know, he’s such a Biblical genius.

Oh, I’m sorry, he’s going to be “adding his Yeezy twist to the classic hits”:

The Daily Star reports that the rapper wants to pay tribute to Bowie by recording some of his tracks but mixing them with his own twist.

A source told the Daily Star that “Some are straightforward cover versions with Kanye actually singing. On others he is rapping with his own lyrics over Bowie’s music.”

 The source also claimed that Kanye sees himself as Bowie’s successor in terms of musical innovation.

The insider also added: “[Kanye] is determined to carry on David’s work as a musical innovator. He says that the torch has been passed to him.”

A musical innovator? Successor? The torch?

Uh-huh.

Is that why, less than 24 hours after West’s announcement, Bowie fans are literally starting petitions to try and stop this from happening?

Is that why, when the Guardian reported Kanye as just such a musical innovator to make a Bowie cover album, commenter Anna Eldrid wrote, “‘Innovative’? Since when does it mean that your music sounds like it was sung into a $5 microphone, auto-tuned by your grandma and remixed in toilet-studio?”

Is that why people take the time to make whole videos just explaining how much he sucks???

David Bowie was one of my most important inspirations, so fearless, so creative, he gave us magic for a lifetime.
