“The impossible will take a little while”

The title of this piece is a line from an old song, Crazy He Calls Me. Billie Holiday made it famous.

When I was 12, I had a friend who was an avid reader of science fiction. He did drawings of future landscapes described in pulp sci-fi novels. When I asked him why, he said, “Because it’s fun.”

Five decades later, in 2001, I remembered him. I was poised on the verge of starting this website, this enterprise, and I knew, because of the Internet, I’d be able to write and publish anything I wanted to. No more pitching stories to editors, no more assignments from editors. It was a whole new world.

I sensed I would be writing some adventurous material and, of course, standing behind it. It occurred to me I’d been pointing toward that day for a long, long time. And I’d arrived.

Nothing left to do but launch.

And since the launch, I’ve been writing and publishing non-stop for 15 years.

Gradually, I came back to the friend and the sci-fi novels and his drawings. I came back to the subject of imagination. The endlessly flowering imagination.

That force which can release untold amounts of new energy and transform body and mind, and expand spirit.

What is the challenge we all face? To launch or not to launch. To envision a great conception, by and through imagination, and then make it real. In the world.

This is life lived.

In the days following the release of my first major collection, The Matrix Revealed, I reflected on my collaboration with friend and colleague, Jack True, a brilliant and innovative hypnotherapist, who had passed away a decade earlier. Jack had been fond of saying, “Without imagination, you’ll never know how big things can get.”

What he meant was: when you find a deep desire, something you truly want to do and fulfill, you’ll understand its scope when you import it into the realm of your own imagination.

There it finds a home, a worthy home. There you feed it.

It becomes a vision, and then the world looks and feels different. Space feels and looks different.

Beyond anything else, this Earth is a place for the realization of dreams. That’s why we come here.

That central fact is easy to forget, but you shouldn’t forget it.

So…a few days after the release of The Matrix Revealed, I sat down and started work on the next collection, Exit From The Matrix. I decided to include in it everything I could from my collaboration with Jack True, my much earlier work with an extraordinary healer in New York, Richard Jenkins, and my research into the practices of early Tibet.

—Not only information, but exercises and techniques that would empower imagination.

This second collection could carry the headline, “The impossible will take a little while,” because with imagination the possibilities are truly endless. The creative power that flows out of imagination has no limits.

What has been called The Matrix is a series of layers. These layers compose what we call Reality. Reality is not merely the consensus people accept in their daily lives. It is also a personal and individual conception of limits. It is a perception that these limits are somehow built into existence. But this is not true.

What I’ve done here is remove the lid on those perceived limits. This isn’t an intellectual undertaking. It’s a way to open up space and step on to a new road.

That road travels to more and more creative power, joy, and fulfillment.

During that great adventure, the individual experiences what has been labeled “paranormal” and “synchronistic” and “magical.” These words really don’t do us justice. They only hint at what we are and what we can do.

I put this collection together because it expresses, explains, and shows, in detail, how the individual can rediscover and reclaim his/her true power.

That process, that engagement, that life is beyond solving problems. Our problems, at the core, exist only because we have “misplaced an infinity.”

Everything I’ve done and written in the past 20 years has been aimed, one way or another, at bringing back that infinity, seeing through the layers of disguise, and moving ahead on the sunlit road we all desire.

This collection is for you, for me, for all of us.

We have, each one of us, an infinite life, lived in a world that is convinced it is bounded.

It’s time we dissolved that false contradiction.
