Actor Woody Harrelson Applies To Open Marijuana Dispensary In Hawaii

Woody Harrelson has been an outspoken marijuana legalization activist for years and now he is putting his money where his mouth is and applying to open up a dispensary in Hawaii. The world-renowned actor was one of nearly 60 some people to apply for the chance to open one of the first dispensaries in the state.

Media caught word of Harrelson’s potential investment when the Hawaii Department of Health published a list of 66 names on Friday, of people who applied to open a dispensary on the island. In April, the health department will announce which applicants will be awarded a permit.

Harrelson was not the only well-known person to apply for a permit, video game entrepreneur Henk Rogers, the developer of the classic game “Tetris” also applied for a permit. Local television personality Dirk Fukushima of “Hawaii Stars,” was also on the list.

Applicants must have $1 million cash just to be able to apply for the license, and they would have to pay an additional $100,000 for each dispensary location.

In 2013, Harrleson opened up with Details magazine about his philosophical beliefs, explaining that he was strongly anti-war, and an anarchist.

“I don’t believe in politics. I’m an anarchist, I guess you could say. I think people could be just fine looking after themselves,” Harrelson said.

Although cannabis use is now extremely socially acceptable in the US, many celebrities are still afraid to put their support, and especially their money behind legalization efforts. However, more people in the public eye are beginning to voice public support for marijuana legalization.
