Did 9ft to 18ft Giants build the ancient burial mounds all over the USA and can you (seriously) have such enormous humans within a context of Darwinian Evolution?

In the same way that the Neanderthals appear to have been eradicated, slaughtered or otherwise driven to extinction by the Cro Magnon (but this could also be because of aggressive genetic cross-breeding) so were the Giants eradicated, slaughtered or otherwise driven to extinction from not only our tribes but also our histories. And why?
Giant skeletons have been found in burial sites ALL OVER THE WORLD and (while this devout agnostic doesn’t necessarily believe the mind-numbings and offensive-contradictions of the Bible/Koran) these aspects of Our Own Evolution really need to be finally brought into the light of scientific investigation.
