A government document titled, “Project 1794, Final Development Summary Report” from 1956 reveals that the United States Air Force had conducted intense research and aimed to construct a supersonic flying saucer alien space craft.
According to the company that began its construction (which was outsourced to Canada) it was meant to be a vertical takeoff and landing craft that could reach speeds about 2,600 mph and a ceiling of over 100,000 feet.

I swear I’ve seen these aircraft on Discovery Wings back in the 90′s. They were prototypes to see if they could get a “saucer” to fly. None of them were efficient if they DID fly, neither did they contain the positive stability characteristics that are used in aircraft. But, from prototypes, things are learned, and new technology is developed as a “side effect”. Who’s to say what the government actually has. Alien? I don’t think so. Super-secret? Definitely. Why? It keeps the tech from falling into the “wrong hands”. Which hands are the wrong hands? Well, I guess that’s a matter of perspective. Just think, as an American; would you want America to control this type of tech, or would you want a country like North Korea controlling it?
