3 Officials to be Tried for Flint Water Crisis: ‘This is Just the Beginning’

Federal charges against three officials for falsifying documents and willfully ignoring the cries of the people of Flint, Michigan over water that was contaminated with lead 27 times the legal limit – will hopefully send Stephen Busch, Mike Prysby, and Mike Glasgow to a prison cell. The state’s attorney general, Bill Schuette, filed charges just hours ago against these likely criminals for their part in creating a severe public health problem that will cost billions to correct and has left thousands sick with lead-poisoning.

Schuette will likely announce felony and misdemeanor charges against at least two, and possibly as many as four people, according to additional sources familiar with the ongoing investigation. More charges against additional participants in the fiasco are said to be forthcoming.

Multiple charges were filed against Mike Glasgow, 40, of Otisville, the city’s laboratory and water quality supervisor; Mike Prysby, 53, of Bath, a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality official; and Stephen Busch, 40, of DeWitt, the suspended Lansing district coordinator for the DEQ’s Office of Drinking Water and Municipal Assistance.

Charges against Bush, Prysby, and Glasgow are just the beginning, according to promises made by Schutte.

Hopefully, Hillary Clinton’s link to the crisis will also end up in the presidential-hopeful being charged. APCO Worldwide, a global PR agency, has contributed up to $50,000 to the Clinton Foundation. The head of the firm is a former Clinton donor, and some of its employees worked in President Bill Clinton’s administration. The executive director of APCO, Pete Wenz, also happens to be a mouthpiece for Lockwood, Andrews & Newnam Inc., (LAN) a Houston-based engineering firm facing multiple lawsuits “alleging gross negligence, professional negligence and battery for alleged lead poisoning of about 50 children in Flint over the past two years.” At least 9 of the approximately 60 lawsuits filed in Flint are against LAN.
If convicted, Glasgow faces up to five years in prison and $6,000 in fines, while Busch faces up to 15 years and $35,000 in fines, and Prysby faces up to 20 years and $45,000 in fines,according to court documents.

Hopefully these officials, and the many others who turned their attention from Michigan’s decaying public water system will stand as an example for the hundreds of cities facing similar possible water contamination issues.
